Question 2
My 5 year old went to the doctor and they said he has a heart murmur?...  I took my son to the doctor (for pink eye) and the doc said he has a heart murmur, is this normal? the reason im so worried is NO doctor has said this before and he didnt give me very much info on it. what should i do?

Answers
1)   idk how serious it is but my nephew was born with one. and he is fine now. so idk - ♥KayRa♥

2)   mercy. what a thing for a doctor to say and then just send you out the door. :(

Very common in children.

The blood is slipping between the valves and making a "murmering sound" or the blood is rushing and making a sound.

Usually as a child grows , this spce between the valves grows in and there is no problem.

He is not at risk of a heart attack and should play as usual.

http://kidshealth.org/parent/medical/heart/murmurs.html - Kelle

3)   talk to the doctor. a Heart murmur can mean nothing and it could mean surgery. I know a lot of people have them and can be quite normal, but I had one when I was young and had to have surgery, so really, talk to your doctor, but I'm sure your son is fine and will be perfect. - az_starshine1

Question 3
To anyone with OCD.....?...  How do you handle it? I don't want to see someone, cause I'm telling myself I can just take care of this. But it's SO annoying, so many things I have to do repeatedly to the point I just get pissed at myself. What are some ways to help it?

Answers
1)   This is my experience: the only way (and I do mean literally the only way) to get past it is to get so incredibly exhausted and sick of it that you just give up and say "you know what? Screw it I'm tired of this and I refuse to put up with it". Until you reach that point it will not go away. - writergirl

2)   You have to zone away from it. JUST DONT DO IT. i know its hard but trust me. Don't tell anyone that you are going to try to stop. When I tried to stop, ppl just messed with me. So the first few times it didnt work. Just work on it at your own pace. - Tammy

3)   It is your body's way of coping with anxiety.
You can't talk yourself out of a mental health problem. The brain's chemicals are involved.

See a doctor - counselling and meds help a lot. - Kelle

It could be the winter weather, or u not eating enough nutrients.

Will I die if I don't get the swine flu shot?

Question 1
Will I die if I don't get the swine flu shot?...

Answers
1)   Yes, you will - FlaChic

2)   No, unless you're an infant, elderly, or have some kind of immunity deficiency, swine flu shouldn't put your life in danger. It just might take 5 days out of your daily life to recover. If you don't want to risk getting the swine flu, get the shot and/or gargle with salt water/mouthwash and drink hot drinks. These help kill the virus if it's in your throat, even if it hasn't infected you yet.

Good luck being swine free. :D - mokiko13

3)   wow flachic is crazy. no you won't and i did not get the shot. the government got involved with this and believe me i could go on and on about this virus. but to keep it short you'll be fine and don't waste your hard earned money on that shot. have a great day! - john

4)   I did not get the shot: I know one lady who got the shot: she was paralized the day after. - Aria

5)   no you wont unless you get it if you think you have swine flue get straight to a doctor i wouldnt take the chance too many people have died with this flu is it a terroist attack i wounder no one know where it came from but id get it sorted go to the quack - twiny amy

Question 2
can a 14 year old diabetic take pills instead of shots?...  i am 14 years old and august of last year i got put in the hospital and i have to take a shot every night i dont feel as free what do i do????

help

Answers
1)   Diabetes come from mild to severe. If you take little needle shots then you would be in the mild range but pills are for the ones who are a little less mild. So basically pills won't be as effective to your diabetes. - Ashley Rated ®

2)   Pills are for people with diabetes who have a mild case and can be controlled with pills and diet. If you have injections then you would not qualify for pills. Just work with your condition and accept it. You probably need to see a pediatric diabetic educator. - FlaChic

3)   If your doctor has gave you shots, then there is a reason why. Shots are more expensive than pills for the government, and it's unlikely he is giving you them for the sake of it.

Speak with your doctor, see what he says. It's unlikely though.

To be honest I'd much rather have the injections. There a lot simpler than swallowing tablets. - paddingzero

4)   Ask ur doctor if u can take pills or still have to take shots. I am not sure if u can take pills bc everyone i know takes shots. - Aleksandra

Will my sons tumor come back? please answer?...  Hi, my son is 10 and was diagnosed with a high grade aggressive tumour and rare as his tumour usually comes when your over 50, its called gbm, in september 2009, anyway they removed his large tumour in his mid brain and surgery went well, recovered very well, he started radiotherapy and chemo (temador) 5 weeks latter, in that time the tumour grew back doctors told me this will kill him and that the radiotherapy will probably not work, i was devastated but believed he could still get threw this, i wanted to prove the hospital wrong, he has had his 6 weeks of radiotherapy and had a scan 3 weeks after, scan showed the tumour was barely visible, it was just highlighted, i was so happy treatment was working, next scan 6 weeks after showed tumour completely gone, now he stays on the chemo for a year, i know tumours come back because of a cell that is left behind, but if my son is on chemo for a year will this be a long enough time to kill any cells? iv been giving him green tea...flor essence and vitamins i pray every day, doctors are amazed that the treatment has worked, but he always says there is a high chance of it coming back... i hope this wont happen he is my only son, and with out him i have nothing.. thanks for ready people..

3)   No one can predict the answer to this question. Not you, the doctors, your son or us. There are no guarantees in life for anything. Love your son and live your life and hope for the best. - Bozema

4)   Well, as FlaChic had highlighted, we are not experts, but I will try to answer your question. Just keep in mind I may very well be wrong.

Maybe54 years ago, my grandparent discovered she had breast cancer. She was treated with chemotherapy, and it was "fully" cured. 2 years later she was diagnosed with liver cancer, and maybe a year after that she was treated for brain cancer. Fortunately, we were unbelievably lucky, and after 3 years of chemotherapy, she seams to be "cancer free" at the moment, but as her doctor said, it will almost certainly come back.

The problem is that cancer isn't like most diseases that are cured and then you're done with them. Cancer never really ever leaves your body. You can treat it when it flares up, but it's impossible right now to actually cure.

I can't say for sure what will happen to your son, but I wouldn't be surprised if his tumor does come back. It's not certain, and I may be wrong, but I doubt it's impossible.

Just keep praying for him. God saved my grandparent from cancer 3 times even when her doctors said it's not going to get better, and God will save your son again. I'll be praying for you. - K

Question 2
Is it routine for a doctor to test someone for cancer?...  the other day my mom told me that she went to the doctor because she wasn't feeling well and she wound up having to get a lot of blood work and stuff done for a cancer screening. Of course it has been bothering me. i was wondering if this was a routine thing for a doctor to do or if i should REALLY be worried.

Answers
1)   They normally do blood work to rule things out, so sometimes the scope of what they're testing for is a little intimidating. If they're doing a normal screening, then it was probably unnecessary to mention cancer to your mom. My dentist found a mass in my xray a few years ago and said, "I'm not saying it's a tumor, but..." clearly alluding to cancer. He referred me to an oral surgeon, who referred me to an EENT specialist and it turned out to be a common sinus problem. My point is, don't be alarmed until you have more information. Better said than done, I know. I hope everything turns out to be fine. - adoptedintograce

2)   To day the doctors are "gun shy" they test for anything they can not find a good reason for. I go twice a year for "Lab Test" aka blood draw and see the doctor 2 weeks after the blood draw and we discuss the results, this is the same for my wife. A very good friend of mine lost her daughter due to cancer of the colon because the doctor did not order a test for it. Unfortunately she also lost her husband in the same year. How much blood they draw depends on the test the doctor orders. I am also surprised you did not mention if a urine test was also ordered. - John P

3)   Don't worry it is a routine thing that doctors do just to make sure there isn't anything going on behind the symptoms someone has, particularly at certain age groups people have a higher risk of different types of cancer so they do it as a precaution to detect what ever they are looking for early, it is more a preventative measure. For example I went to my doctor complaining of constant diarrhoea and he sent me for a colon cancer test which was negative. Try not to worry and wait for the results it will probably be nothing serious.

Cheers - Elly

4)   Blood work is the first indication that something is off... A complete blood panel will show if her WBCs (white blood cells are elevated, which does elude to some types of cancer but, doesn't mean it is definite), and her other panel readings will indicate if there is a hormonal issue, thyroid issue, etc. So to be worried at this point is truly premature. It sounds like your mom's doctor is really precautionary when it comes to precancerous screenings... and in my opinion, that is an awesome thing. :0) Try not to freak. :0) Best wishes... - Texas RN

can i die from smoking it with the paper or the fact that i'm already sick?

Answers

the thing you have to worry about it you were dumb and used computer paper, that can make you seriously sick as well as poison you.

just don't even do that again.
if you are going to smoke, use rolling papers meant for that or even smoke out of an apple. - due in july

3)   no
but i suggest you dont use computer paper anymore - Awsker

4)   No .

However if you keep on this track:

3)   He'll be fine! A little benadryl and he'll be all set.

Azithromycin allergies are very common. Call the MD in the morning, and he'll likely prescribe a different class of antibiotic. Just make sure that his allergy is duly noted in his medical record at school, the MD's office, the pharmacy, etc. - Michael G

4)   You could have taken care of this at home if he was not having any trouble breathing. You give benadryl for about 3 days as directed on the bottle for his age and weight and not give any more of the Zithromax and call your physician in the morning and tell him your child's reaction and he will probably prescribe a different antibiotic. - J B

5)   they will admister antihistamin that will reduce your son's allergic conditions. your son is allergic to macrolide types of antibiotics - mihsah

6)   I would guess that if he's just breaking out, but breathing ok, then he'll be fine.
What will they do? Probably just give him something like an antihistamine (Benadryl) for the rash,
keep an eye on him for a little while, then send him home. Hope everything is fine by morning. - joyceg

Question 3
Do I have insomnia or is it just me?...  So i can't fall asleep for like two hours, i wake up every night around 3-4 and cant fall asleep again until five, then i automatically wake up at 7 and feel like i have gotten no sleep at all. is this insomnia or is it just me?

Answers
1)   Not normal. may be anxiety. see the doctor. - Kelle

2)   You possibly might have insomnia, or anxiety. Talk to a doctor about it. - Nick

3)   well there are different kinds of insomnia but im pretty sure this is not that. insomnia is like never falling asleep and/or waking up really early and not be able to go back to sleep.
if you do things like watch tv, go on the computer, or exercise, or sometimes even eat too late. that can keep you from going to sleep. and then sometimes if you let not being able to fall asleep quickly bother you that can be what wakes you up.
there are many reasons. i would talk to your doctor though, they can help a lot... i used to have sleeping problems... you just need to get on a schedule of some kind. - LHn

4)   Many people don't realize this but insomnia presents itself in various forms, here's a few that I know of:

1) Not being able to sleep at all
2) Waking up during the night/early morning and not being able to fall back to sleep
3) Sleeping for hours, but have no feeling of rest or relief

So I would guess yes, you have insomnia, if, and only if, this is a regular or even nightly occurrence. If this is affecting your social, home or school and/or work life, you should talk to your doctor about medications that could help you out.

If this is not regular, then you could possibly be suffering from anxiety or depression, but I don't know you personally, so this is only information I am throwing out there for you to consider. You could be a happy, stress-free person for all I know.

Hope this helps :)

PS: if you are depression or anxious, you should talk to you doctor about treatment that would be appropriate for you, not just to sleep better, but in all facades of your life. - AureleyM

Question 5
i'm literally breaking out everywhere, and i'm ready to just give up on life...?...  okay well i'm 14 years of age and i'm female. i'm your typical teen, a group of girlfriends, and that one special guy friend. earlier last year, i started to steal my sisters foundation because i was developing the occasional pimple in the chin area. i used to sleep with my make-up on because i didn't know any better. then the pimples got worse. i started to develop them on my upper back (bacne), and on my forehead badly, and there were also many visible blackheads on my nose. so i asked my mum if i could buy my own make-up. she agreed, so we went out and bought liquid foundation and baby wipes to remove the make-up nightly. i started to get really oily skin, and the pimples got worse. i was really scared because my friends had incredibly clear skin. not to mention my back, the acne developed all over my back into large red pimples! so i started to google my problems, and realised that there were others out there too. i came to the solution that i needed to buy powder makeup, because i had heard that it absorbs oil quicker. so i went through school daily wearing powder foundation, and taking it off an night with baby wipes, then afterwards moisturising. months later, my skin was getting worse. but all over my body. i started to get hundreds of reddish whiteheads all over chest, my bacne was still worse, and my face was full of acne. my forehead was red and noticeable, my nose was BRIGHT red with whiteheads and deep pimples, and the sides of my nose almost looked infected with the amount of obvious pores. i asked my sister and she said to buy an acne cleanser. with my own money, i decided to purchase the Garnier BlackHead Removal Acne Scrub for my face. it slowly started to work, and i was actually confident for a while. it came to school holidays, so i layed off the make-up completely. its summer over here where i live, and suddenly my acne got even worse!!! huge deep, under the skin pimples developed on my chin, cheeks, and back. i literally would stay up in my room everyday and i actually started to gain weight. i was too afraid to leave my room because i thought my mum and dad would laugh at me :( so i googled my problem and 'apparently' acne scrubs are too rough for my skin. recently, i went out and bought an Acne Deep Cream Cleanser. this is the cleanser that i am using currently. school holidays are coming to an end so i am really worrying on making my appearance look better. about 5 minutes ago i went to take a shower, but i looked at myself in the mirror, just before i hopped it. my back is full of acne right down to my bottom! under both my armpits, i have a huge red pimply rash from the heat! (im playing basketball sooon, so i dont know what to do!!), my chest is covered in deep large pimples, and my face, oh my god. i'm literally crying while typing this, my face is terrible. you probably think i'm just some stupid little 14 year old with one tiny pimple on her nose. but no, my face is covered with them. i'm washing my face about 3 times everyday, i'm showering right after exercise, i'm wearing baggy clothing, i dont have bangs anymore, i tie my hair up, i change my pillowcase a LOT, so i seriously don't know what to do. my skin is always oily and i cant even look at myself in the mirror. i mean, i dont even know why my friends like me! i'm a fucking disaster. please help me, is anyone out there? i've officially hit rock bottom.

2)   Oh my gosh, you poor thing! I can tell how much this is hurting your self-esteem. PLEASE have your parent(s) take you to see a dermatologist (skin doctor) to get some proper treatment. It sounds like the combination of your makeup, these scrubs, all the face washing...well it may truly be making things worse. Sometimes teens need antibiotics to help with all the breakouts. Let a doctor decide the best creams for you to use. You have tried so many things to help yourself - all the bathing, keeping hair off your face, changing your bed linens. I am hopeful a doctor can find a better solution for you.

3)   You poor kid. You should get your parents to take you to your doctor. If the doctor doesn't have any suggestions, you'll need to see a dermatologist. If you don't address this problem, it will really start to affect your self-esteem. You're at a very crucial age right now. There is a solution for your problem, you just have to be patient and find it. Good luck in your search! - Wendy M

4)   A lot of people swear by proactive facial cleaner. I've never tried it but I have seen the commercials on tv. You might could google it. Also the foods we eat can sometimes cause more acne, like greasy foods or dark sodas. If you have long hair, try pulling it into a pony tail at night. Also my grandmother always said to eat oatmeal b/c it is good for the skin. I don't know how true that is but oatmeal is good for us anyway so it couldn't hurt. When I hit puberty my acne was bad but it got much better. I know it doesn't seem like it now but it will get better. Your friends like you for you, for who you are. Those are true friends. If you are really upset maybe you should see a dermatologist. I had a friend in school who had to go to one. Now you would never know she ever had a problem. Always remember, its the inside that makes a beautiful person. Don't be so hard on yourself and if this is causing you to be depressed, you need to talk to your parents about it. Don't ever give up on life. It is a gift and you have so much ahead of you. The teen years are tough on everyone but it does get better and one day you will be able to look back and say "wow, look how strong that made me." - bamagirl

Is it possible to have a mole removed on the face without leaving a scar?...  I have 2 moles on my face which I have had for somtime now. But after all these years I have had enough and want them removed. However I do not want scarring. Is it possible to have them removed without leaving a scar? 2)   Go buy hydrocortisone cream if you don't already have some (it's not very expensive) while the cracks may take a few days to heal, the redness and dryness will go away rather fast. Moisturizing cream will also help to an extent. What can be causing my stomach pain?...  Almost every time after a meal... my stomach starts to hurt and then I have to go to the restroom ... as in #2.. I've had this problem for years now... Never really have talked to a doctor I assumed this is just how my body was built or meant to be or something... any one else experiences this problem?

Answers
1)   you can be lactose intolerent it happend to me n turns out i was even the litlest amount of dairy hurts

OORRRR it could be stress, stress causes ur stomach to get pains because its weakend - Danielle=]

2)   Sounds like a food sensitivity issue. Many things and different foods could cause this. The likely culprit is fatty food. If it isn't fried/fatty food then start thinking in terms of inflammatory foods. ie... wheat, dairy, corn etc... You could start on a basic diet and add foods in until you get the negative response.

If it isn't a food sensitivity you may have a malfunctioning gall bladder (stores bile), IBS (Irritable bowel syndrome), Chron's Disease, Celiac Disease etc... best to let a doctor take a look if it isn't food related.

Question 3
Can I swim in the pool with a skin rash?...  I am swimming in school. Today I started feeling really itchy. I took a shower and the water made me even more itchy. Is it safe for me to swim at school? Or can I somehow spread it to others?
I haven't been to the doctors yet so I don't have a doctors note. Should my mom
write a note to get me excused?

Answers
1)   Hmm, I have to say that I think you should have your mom write a note until your rash goes away. Pools have chemicals like chlorine that can irritate skin even further. Hope I helped. :) - Ken

2)   you can go ahead and swim in it...but i won't cause that'll just be gross - sarcastic_mister_know_it_all

3)   if there are abrasions or open cuts, you could possibly get an infection due to bacteria.
but if its just a rash, the chemicals (chlorine) could iritate it more, causing longer healing process.
i would get a note just in case - mkiggs

4)   It might be contagious, but I'm thinking it's more likely an allergic reaction to the chlorine or whatever mix of chemicals they use in the pool. It stays on your skin after the water dries. Taking a hot shower opens up your pores and allows the substance to get into your skin. Taking cool or cold showers after swimming will reduce the itching somewhat, as it will close up your pores, and showering immediately after swimming will help, too. Use soap as well, and give your skin a good scrubbing. Apply some type of ointment (after swimming) that makes the rash not itch - like what you might put on if you get sunburned. - Bill F

Question 4
is this an outbreak? someone who knows how to be mature please?...  okay so about a year ago i was diagnosed with hsv 1 genitally... it was given to me through oral sex... i know that you can have outbreaks down there after that.

the other day after i shaved down there, my boyfriend & i had sex.. & then the day after i noticed something which felt like a razor bump to me. it itched pretty bad (just like a normal razor bump) well a few days after i noticed that now it kind of looks like an open sore... i have sort of a milky white discharge too.... last year when i had my primary outbreak, i had probably likr 8 sores.. this time only one... could this be an outbreak or do you think that it's from a razor cut?? could i have scratched it too hard or something & caused it to get irritated?

i'm really worried... & like scared...

Answers
1)   First of all dont be scared. It could be either syphillis or your HSV-1 breaking out. Go to your local health department and get it checked out just to clear your mind. No worries though, just be safe. - Ashley

2)   I have experience in health care. Currently I am in the pediatric field but was in family medicine before this. From what you are describing I would ask you to go see your provider. When they come back and reappear sometimes it is just one. They will need to verify before a treatment can be ordered. If it is try to stay away from sex right now. Don't be scared, but do not ignore it and tell yourself it's just razor burn. With the white discharge I know it's more. With razor burn it just will look like a "whitehead" it won't have anything be released.

Don't let anyone scare you with the answers, just get in tomorrow if you can before the weekend.

Good luck. - Navywife0827

Question 5
how do you get rid of pimples and zits?...  i have acne all over my face amd i am only 12. i ordered proactive and if u have used it or someone u no has used it please tell me how it is. i really just want my pimples gone. thank you and please no negative comments! p.sp how bug are proactives bottles and what does it come with?

Answers
1)   1. Stop picking on your zits. You risk infecting the surrounding skin and have it spread like wildfire and that’s the least of your worries. To add insult to injury, it risks scarring and that’s even harder to remove.

2. Wash your face every day but don’t go overboard by using detergent based soap. Use antibacterial soap for maximum effect.

3. Go easy on the make up. Find a water based make-up to reduce to prevent aggravating your zits.

4. Try maintaining healthy lifestyle by eating less oily food and less chocolate.

5. Make sure you have all the vitamins and mineral needed by your body. Try taking multivitamin.

6. You can go for over the counter products based on benzoyl peroxide. Check on the label of the product you wish to purchase and make sure you select the one with the lowest concentration.

7. Drink lots of water. Water helps you cleanse your body internally.

8. Reduce processed food and take more natural food such as vegetables and such

9. This may sound weird but you can try putting toothpaste on your zits before going to bed. First you have to wash your face and then put your toothpaste directly onto the zits and go straight to bed. Try it for a few night.

10. If you want to make your zits less noticeable, try this: run hot water on to your towel, or face towel. Take the steaming hot towel and place it your zits. It’ll make the zits smaller, but be careful when you are handling the hot towel. You don’t want to burn your face! - Picnframes Tech

2)   1)Wash your face twice a day in warm salty water.
2)Apply undiluted lemon juice, two to three times a day, on the affected areas.
3)Use green tea as a face scrub to loose blackheads.
4)try don't to eat to much junk food like chips chocolate ect.because you can get more by that.
5)Try to stay away from fatty foods. Eating correctly is very important in terms of keeping acne away.

http://tips-to-avoid-acne-pimples.blogspot.com/
http://skin-scar.blogspot.com/ - Sonia

3)   Wash your face at least twice daily with a facial wash of your choice. When I was your age, I washed my face with Noxzema on a wash cloth, using circular motions all over my face, rinsed it well with warm water. I then applied good old Clearasil to my acne after washing it. You don't need a ton of Clearasil, just enough to cover it thoroughly. I never wore the Clearasil out in public because it wasn't invisible. It may be invisible now, so check it out. Keeping the face as clean as you can, really helps. Try to keep your hands away from your face & your hair off your face, as the oil in the hair will cause you to have more acne. Never ever pop your pimples. Just wash your face well & apply the Clearasil. Squeezing the pimples, will leave permanent scarring on your face. Drinking a lot of water each day will help flush all the impurities out of your body. You'll see less acne once you are drinking water regularly. Eat a healthy diet of veggies, fruit, lean beef, chicken (baked or grilled) as well as turkey, & fish.

**I have yet to hear that Proactive is good for getting rid of acne. The only thing it gets rid of, is your money & in a hurry.** - Shortstuff13

5)   No you're good - Brandy M

6)   nope, they are present only in very tiny amounts that aren't detectable by urine testing - cleverityƸ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ

7)   yes along with pupple Dragons - Tom Sawyer

8)   If your urine is specifically being tested for drugs, then yes, the shrooms would be detected. - Anon

9)   yes--that's what the test is for.... - evangel_42

10)   for a certain amount of time, not long though - steve allen

11)   The half life for these molecules is a measure of when half of the initially ingested amounts are processed and possibly excreted by your body. Obviously the amount you consume of each, which is often hard to determine, will indicate how long these molecules can be detected in your urine. So, it is important to know how much you consumed. Do you know?

Either way, after a month it is unlikely that either of these would be detectable in the urine. LSD is probably the least detectable given the super small dosage that is consumed. However, LSD is less likely to actually be pure LSD and is often substituted or cut with PCP and other drugs. - Drew P

10)   proactive is really just benzoyl peroxide and moisutuizer combined. Benzoyl peroxide can be a bit strong for your entire face so mixing with a gentle moisturizer is a good idea. I do this and save a lot of money by doing it myself. Use full strength benzoyl peroxide on a full-blown single pimple you want to dry out. Benzoyl peroxide also has antiseptic qualites. Experiment with the ratio which works for your own skin.

My own dermatologist recommends Cetaphil cleanser for acne prone skin. It won't over dry skin and most acne cleansers do and then skin reacts by over-producing oil making acne worse. - Can't Control The Kittens

Deep acne, wont go away.?...  Well I have this huge zit forming on my chin, i dont think it will be too bad as in it wont surface to a white head, but I can feel that is is scary large beneath the skin, and it's been there for a while. I was my face with clearasil every day and use a creme but that doesnt seem to be working. Are there any other ways to get something like this to go away? If you do pop it, wait until it surfaces, because squeezing at it while it's still deep can push it deeper. - LadyB112

My husband is a diabetic. The doctor doesn't want anything over 6

2)   i dunno, why ask me? - Lol

3)   Fasting (no eating for 8hrs. prior) anything over 120 (borderline is 115 to 119)

Post-prandial (after meals) 1hr: anything over 140
2 hrs: anything over 120

Any random reading over 180 is BAD.

Also for HA1C anything over 6.1 is considered diabetes, ideally it should be under 6.0 preferably under 5.5. - Valpurga

4)   The following lab values are the ADA practice guidelines for the diagnosis of diabetes:

A random plasma glucose value of 200 mg/dl (11.1 mmol/L) or more (in the presence of diabetes symptoms)
A fasting plasma glucose value of 126 mg/dl (7 mmol/L) or more
An oral glucose plasma glucose value of 200 mg/dl or higher at 2 hours post-glucose load2
The ADA also maintains that a definitive diabetes diagnosis requires a second positive test performed on a different day.

So at random or 2 hours post glucose loading 200 or more is high
fasting over 126 is high

What is this numbness in my toe and leg?...  I am in college and am very active. I dance pretty rigorously 2-3 days a week and have some performances as well. I suffer from Patella Femoral Syndrome and Chrondo- Malaycia (sorry about the spelling!) in my right knee pretty badly, and am planning on having surgery in May (I have suffered from this for about four years) Today I was taking a pilates class, and when doing some exercises I felt numbness go down through my leg and foot and onto my 4th toe, and it was followed by pain. 3)   No, I just don't see the point in it. - Katherine

4)   no, its a wee jab. and u cant get a cold from the flu shot.it is 2 completly differant diseases. - livin life

5)   I don't fear them, I get them every year. I got both this year. You might want to talk to your doctor about that. - Steven M

6)   I have never been sick in winter & as I have asthma I am supposed to have a flu jab. Year before last I decided I would have one & I was ill I didn'nt have one this year & have decided I am better off without one.

I expect it affects people differently so why not have one & take it from there. - Lyn S

7)   Kind of. Statistically speaking, I know that you are highly likely to NOT get the flu if you get the shot, or if you do it will be a more minor form. If you do not get the shot, you are more likely to get the flu, and a worse version of it than the one you get sick from if you get sick from the shot itself.

That said, I did get sick from the flu shot one year, and so psychologically I am prone to not want it. Instead, I am obsessively clean, avoid sick people, and wash my hands frequently whenever I am in a public place. So far, so good... but make no bones about it. If I get the flu, I am going to get it really bad because I did not take the shot. And if you get the H1N1 flu without the shot... some people have died from it. That's the risk. It's your choice! - Mr. Taco

8)   i hate coldws but i wouldnbt take a shot for em .. - hometown girl

9)   Yes I do, so many of these medications they make "in a hurry" to prevent something always seem to get re-called after severe side effects show up in some people. Also the flu shots only protect against some strains of the flu not all So why put them into your body. I am high risk with severe asthma however I have never received the flu shot and so far I am still here Good Luck - chet374

5)   Bupropion (Aplenzin, Wellbutrin, Wellbutrin SR, Wellbutrin XL) is used to treat depression. Bupropion (Wellbutrin XL) is also used to treat seasonal affective disorder (SAD; episodes of depression that occur in the fall and winter each year). Bupropion (Zyban) is used to help people stop smoking. Bupropion is in a class of medications called antidepressants. It works by increasing certain types of activity in the brain.

Paroxetine tablets, suspension (liquid), and extended-release (long-acting) tablets are used to treat depression, panic disorder (sudden, unexpected attacks of extreme fear and worry about these attacks), and social anxiety disorder (extreme fear of interacting with others or performing in front of others that interferes with normal life). Paroxetine tablets and suspension are also used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (bothersome thoughts that won't go away and the need to perform certain actions over and over), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD; excessive worrying that is difficult to control), and posttraumatic stress disorder (disturbing psychological symptoms that develop after a frightening experience). Paroxetine extended-release tablets are also used to treat premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD, physical and psychological symptoms that occur before the onset of the menstrual period each month). Paroxetine is in a class of medications called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It works by increasing the amount of serotonin, a natural substance in the brain that helps maintain mental balance.
I think that you have adverse drug reaction due to combined effect of Bupropion and Paroxetine. (DRUG INTERACTIONS). Such combinations may lead to confusion, high blood pressure, tremor, hyperactivity, coma, and death.

Question 1
I always have dead skin on my toes. It's mainly only my big toes and little toes. How can I prevent this?...  How can I prevent dead skin from forming on my toes? I know it's gross, that's why I want it gone! Thanks!

Answers
1)   Wear socks...and scrub your toes in the shower. Lotion maybe? - imjakeychan

2)   make me ur bitch :)) - kdskdsjXZC

3)   the answer is pumice. your feet will love you. - olinader

4)   Wash them.
Use Gold Bond powder to keep them dry, even when you're not using them. - My Evil Twin

5)   It may be Athlete's Foot, a fungal infection that requires a specific drug. The link below shows more information on how to treat it.

Treatment
Over-the-counter antifungal powders or creams can help control the infection. These generally contain miconazole, clotrimazole, or tolnaftate. Continue using the medicine for 1 - 2 weeks after the infection has cleared from your feet to prevent the infection from returning.

In addition:
•Keep your feet clean and dry, especially between your toes.
•Wash your feet thoroughly with soap and water and dry the area very carefully and completely. Try to do this at least twice a day.
•Wear clean, cotton socks and change your socks and shoes as often as necessary to keep your feet dry.

Prevention
To prevent athlete's foot, follow these measures:

•Dry your feet thoroughly after bathing or swimming.
•Wear sandals or flip-flops at a public shower or pool.
•Change your socks often to keep your feet dry. This should be done at least once a day.
•Use antifungal or drying powders to prevent athlete's foot if you are susceptible to getting it, or you frequent areas where athlete's foot fungus is common (like public showers).
•Wear shoes that are well ventilated and, preferably, made of natural material such as leather. It may help to alternate shoes each day, so they can dry completely between wearings. Avoid plastic-lined shoes. - One Hundred graphic details

Question 2
Why is my face red, itchy, blotchy, and hot? Please help!?...  I am 15 years old and I rarely ever break out, if i do, it would be because of the chlorine i am in all the time for swimming. But recently (4 or 5 days ago) my face started becoming redder and redder and now it just hurts and looks blotchy. It is really dry too so i tried to put on my clinique lotion that usually is great, but it just made it worse. Could this be caused by switching face lotions or something else?

3)   You should deffinately go to a doctor. It can be anything, an allergic reaction, sun damage, etc. check with your allergies and read the ingredients of your new lotion - Emmy

4)   Sounds like some sort of reaction to a cream or possibly something you have eaten. Have you eaten shrimp or lobster anytime recently. Sometimes shellfish can do this; however, you definetly need go get to the doctor, with your face being hurting and blotchy. I had a reaction to a medication, cannot remember what it was but my face got all splotchy and hot. Have you started taking any kind of new medication of any kind. I would definetly NOT start any kind of facial routine until you find out what this is. Your doctor will know the best way to treat this. Since you are a teenager and not wanting to have togoto school like this don't waste your time on a home remedy go to someone who knows what he is doing and has probably seen this an number of times. Your doctor. Hope this helps. - Jenny Lynne

Question 4
Describe the difference between HIV and AIDS?...

Answers
1)   HIV is the virus that can lead to AIDS. HIV damages the immune system by killing the cells our bodies use to fight infection. (CD4 cells) Someone who has HIV may have no symptoms until the immune system is seriously damaged.
Once the CD4 count drops to 200 or below, diagnosis changes from HIV to AIDS. As the CD4 cell count drops, the person becomes more and more vulnerable to all other infections, which become more difficult to fight off. HIV itself does not kill. Death occurs from other infections, a result of the body's inability to fight them off. ("other infections" could range from the common cold to flu, pneumonia, TB, and many other infections)

These days, with treatment, many people with HIV are able to live healthier, longer. However, not everyone responds the same way to the treatments or to the virus itself, and the treatments do have side effects.

Also: Someone who has HIV can transmit the virus to others, even if they do not have symptoms yet and do not test positive yet. It can take up to 3 months, or in rare cases, up to 6 months, for an infected person to test positive. - Liam

2)   HIV is from contact with another person's blood. For example sharing needles.
AIDS is from bodily fluids. For example, semen from sexual activity. - threeminpins4me

3)   If I remember correctly, HIV is the actual virus and AIDS is the condition that it can develop into. It's possible for someone to be HIV positive and not have any of the symptoms of AIDS, but they can still give it to other people. - Hunter
