Blood coming from throat last night, something to be worried about?

Question 1
Blood coming from throat last night, something to be worried about?...  Last night I started spitting up large quantities of blood (bright to dark red). It lasted about 15 minutes. I found no cuts in my mouth, or throat. Nothing coming out of my nose (stuck q-tip up there to see if any blood was up there). I thought it was not much at first, because it was mixed with saliva and that makes it look like more, but then it just kept coming more and more and more quantities. Very gross.

After 15 minutes it stopped (lessened until gone). No other color blood came up (black/blue).

It felt like it was either draining down from the back of my throat, or being pushed up from below my mouth level.

The air has been very dry here, could it be like a nose bleed but from behind my nose (throat cavity, sinus cavity?). Also, 13 hours before I got smacked in my front teeth (not loose, no swelling or bruising, just hurt like hell). But that was 13 hours before.

I've had no pain, no discomfort. I've not been sick. No flu symptoms nor have I taken any drugs or alcohol.

Asking here, because I was laid off and insurance canceled (majorly screwed over on that) so I can't afford to go to the doctor right now unless its something important.

Question 3
Is my friend anorexic ?...  Recently one of my good friends has been eating alot less than she used to. Infact, i haven't seen her actually eat anything in about a week (which doesn't seem very long, i know.) She's always complaining that she needs to lose weight and she's always telling me that she doesn't like eating anymore. I went shopping with her recently and she spent the whole time telling me that she was now avoiding mirrors. She also told me that her mum had got annoyed at her for not eating, and wanted her to go to a therapist. When i told her that her mum might be on to something, she was quick to tell me she wasn't anorexic.
All the signs seem to point to an eating disorder, except for the fact that she clearly doesn't feel like she has the need to hide anything. She rubs the fact that she has stopped eating and feels self concious about her weight in my face. She never hesitates to prove that she is counting calories. I always thought that people suffering from anorexia tried to hide it.
Is she actually anorexic, and just reaching out for help? Or is she simply trying to get attention? She's not an attention whore, but i think she may like the idea of people being worried about her.
I know that she went through some sort of eating disorder a while ago, but because i wasn't friends with her back then i only know what she has told me.
I don't want to shrug off something that may be serious .. But i just can't tell if this is genuine.
Pleease help.

1)   she could start becoming anorexic. take her to like subway or go somewhere for lunch that is healthy. make sure she's eating. tell her that eating small meals throughout the days is healthy and can help you loose weight. (it does!)
make sure she eats but don't push it
hope this helps - people care

2)   It sounds to me like she's kind of anorexic, but you're right; most people with anorexia hide it.
So maybe she's trying to get a little attention. Everyone likes knowing that there are people worrying about them.
Then again, she just really may think she's fat and needs to lose weight, my friend Katie is like that.
She only eats once a day, but she isn't anorexic.
So I would talk to your friend about it and make sure she's okay.
That might help. :) - Scarlett

3)   she sounds like me,
but i am a lot more secretive,
i am heading in the way to becoming a buliamic and i know that but i can't stop,
my mum brings me food up to my room and i throw it down the toliet
i don't eat at school
i make yslef throw up my dinner
i do secret exercise.
she sounds like me a couple of months ago. help her quick before she turns like me. i wouldn't want anybody to become like me becuase i can't help it. i know i don't eat enough but i can't overendulge - Pinkie

Question 5
Bitten by a dog, can't get to doc's for two days, tetanus shot?...  I was bitten by a cranky old dog today, just one little bloody puncture hole. I thought I should get a tetanus shot since I haven't had one in 8 years, but I can't get to the doctor's until Monday. Is that too late to get a tetanus shot?

Answers
1)   You don't get tetanus from animals, and besides tetanus vac's are good for 10 years. If possible just keep an eye on the dog for a week or so for signs of rabies, odds are that you'll be fine. - Ozgood

2)   Why can't you see a doctor til Monday?

You probably don't need to go to an ER, but if there was an urgent care facility (Around here we have a chain called ASAP Medical) or an outpatient clinic attached to a hospital to either of those facilities would happily give you a shot.

My doctor's office has an answering service that will contact my doctor or one of the partners in her practice, whoever is on call that day, to answer a question.

You can probably call the hospital ER and ask to have a nurse answer your question, too.

I would not go to an er, because you will sit and wait until everybody else has been taken care of. A puncture wound will be triaged and be treated after the car accidents, stabbing victims from last evenings bar fights, people with unexplained head pain, possible heart attacks and strokes, crying children with ear infections, broken limbs, (life threatening condition, actually, because the broken bone can sever an artery). You will see the doc about the same time as the constipated little old man in the waiting room.

Call your doctor's number anyway and see what happens. I'll bet you get an answer from someone, one way or the other. There is a time limit after which the shot is not so effective, but I'm not a doctor. - velma1899
