I started to feel sick and then found a tick...?

Question 1
I started to feel sick and then found a tick...?...  I am feeling sick at my stomach, having aches and pains all throughout my body, am really cold, and have a fever. I take some Tylenol and feel better for a few hours but then start to feel sick again. I found the tick after I started to feel sick and removed it. Without thinking, I flushed it. It was brown with a little bit of a white collar? Should I see a doctor?

Also, there is no telling how long the tick was attached but I live in an area with a lot of ticks.

Answers
1)   Yes, go see a doctor. You might have contracted something from the tick. - Lollipop

2)   There was an article on the news the other day about how there are new breeds of tics that are evolving, and how dangerous they are. I would definitely head to the doctors asap as a necessary precaution. - Kat

3)   Yes you should see a doctor as soon as you can. Ticks spread a lot of horrible diseases. I don't think you should worry because most of them can be cured, but seeing a doctor cant hurt you. - MecHa

4)   You need to see a doctor, the kind of tick may matter, but could not matter at all as the region in which you picked up the tick may only have one species, making your description not required.

You may have lymes disease, go read about the symptoms and check for the bulls-eye around the tick bite to see if you have it or not. No bulls-eye, no lymes disease. - Tom

Question 3
About how long will surgery take for a self inflicted gun shot to the head?...  My friend tried to commit suicide about two hours ago, and so far there hasn't been any news. I'm just worried and would like a time frame of how long the surgery might last. So far the silver lining is that he's in the 1/3rd of people with cranial bullet wounds that survive the trip to the hospital. Would anyone happen to know what his chances of survival might be too? I'm really worried. Serious answers only please. :(

Answers
1)   There's going to be a lot of damage. Time frame depends on how he shot himself and what kind of damage has been inflicted. Survival rate at this point, if he made it to the hospital at all increases dramatically. It's going to be touch and go. He's probably no doing too hot, but be confident, he's in the care of his surgeons, they'll do everything they can to help him. Like I said, the fact that he survived the trip to the hospital says a lot. - Boots McGooch

2)   It is a delicate part of the body. However, due to this fact it can take 10-20 hours easily. The intricacy of the brain means that he is expected to go through about 4 more soon and that is just the average and depends on the severity. In addition, he will be in a hospital for 2-5 months again depending on the severity. However, the bright side is that the brain is highly adaptable and that these people are trained severely in order to do this work and this is probably about their 200th surgery (at least) if you are in an urban area. - Brandon

3)   What you are about to read will be upsetting. I'm truly sorry for what I will say and if you cant bare the pain, please, dont read it. Injuries like this can affect people in many drastic ways and I am just trying to give you the picture so you dont get your hopes up too much.

You'll need to prepare yourself for the fact their personality is likely to change drastically if they survive, in many unpredictable ways. He could forget large portions of his life, people, the ability to speak or remember, the ability to hear, see, inhibitions, he may become more docile, incontinent, anything. If I were you, I would be cautious about getting my hopes up. Be supportive for the family and offer them kind words, but its a gunshot wound to the head and the chance of the individual dying of internal bleeding, oxygen deprivation to the brain, infection, sub-dural haemorrhaging, etc and their effects on his brain if he survives them, will be grave. But the fact is, what if he missed his brain all together? What if he went through the front of his face to the back ,or through the sides, aiming too low? He may be completely mentally capable and just lose his sense of smell, or an eye, or merely just find it a bit more difficult to chew. From his intentions however, its likely that he did aim for the brain.

I'm truly sorry for your situation and for your friend. I suffer from depression and find this mans story the worst of them all. - Tom

can high blood pressure be cured?

Question 1
can high blood pressure be cured?...

Answers
1)   Most conditions are not cured, but they are treated and regulated in various ways. - ed

2)   There is no treatment or magic pill that can 'cure' high blood pressure. That said there are numerous medications that can be prescribed that will keep the condition under control.

Changes to lifestyle can also have a dramatic affect on your blood pressure - stress, drinking alcohol and smoking all can raise it. As can taking too much salt and not eating a healthy diet.

Basically the best way to treat high blood pressure is to treat with medication from your doctor and enhance this with the healthy lifestyle changes.

There is a type of high blood pressure that is only experienced in women when they are pregnant. This type only will disappear shortly after the birth of the baby and doesn't always return. - Julie G

Allergic to Head and Shoulders shampoo?...  Ok at first I was using a combination of Head and Shoulders(extra volume, dandruff shampoo) with Pantene 2 in 1 shampoo/conditioner. Recently I started noticing little bumps in my head that itched so I figured it was the Pantene and I stopped using that and just used the Head & Shoulders. But even after a couple of weeks the little bumps are still on my scalp. So I'm assuming it's the Head & Shoulders shampoo. But I have used Pantene before and it didn't give me the bumps, but as soon as I started using Head & Shoulders the itchy bumps on my scalp appeared, plus my slight dandruff is still there. With conditioner I use V05 Apple Blossom, mainly because it smells good lol. So I was wondering if I was allergic to the Head & Shoulders shampoo???

Can I get diabetic medication prescribed if I’m uninsured?...  I've developed all the symptoms of diabetes and a blood glucose meter has consistently shown my sugars at elevated (300+) levels. I can usually "feel" when my sugars get REALLY high, especially when I'm sleeping because I'll have to wake up nearly every hour to pee and when I do wake up my mouth is extremely dry. I’ve also got a wound on my foot that’s taken months to heal and it’s still not completely healed.

Anyway, I don’t have any income and no health insurance and I really should be on medication to keep my glucose levels under control, but I don't know how to get them prescribed to me without paying a couple hundred dollars to see a doctor. I would be able to afford the generic prescription if I could find a way to get it prescribed to me.

Do I have any options?

Answers
1)   medicaid might cover it talk to a county social worker... - hotchickagirl422

2)   Find a clinic (sometimes free). Hospitals sometimes have these. This is why doctors get free samples.

Drug companies are giving drugs to people who cannot pay for them. This is different than the free samples. You will have to see a doctor.

Don't give up your sugars are too high for this to happen. When I did not have insurance I would find a doctor who would give a very discounted cost for cash. Remember the free samples. They all get them.

Best of luck.

Is there a way to stop being allergic to dogs?...  Ok some say that you can stop not by medications. But being around dogs or getting used to it will i be less allergic or change to worse. I love my dog and i don't want to kick him out. The only time im allergic if there not clean and have alot of fur. So now we have to shave the dog. Just trim. Then i would stop sneezing or being allergic. Being around other dogs i don't get allergic not like before it was worse. Now it's not that bad. Is it that i'm getting used to it or does it mean that it would get worse later on? What can do?
:(

Answers
1)   You can't just 'stop' being allergic. The best way is to take allergy meds, but there are other options such as shots. No, you cannot get 'used to' your allergies. But it's common to have certain allergies when you're younger and they kind of fade away as you grow older, or vice versa. - VD

2)   When you are surrounded by dogs or very close to one, I'd think your body would get used to it. Also there is a way to make you allergy disappear Medically(: ask your doctor about it!:D my sister was thinking about it but what you pretty much do, is you get a shot every week for 5 yrs to get rid of an allergy. I know it sounds horrible (I mean for 5 yrs?!) BUT think about the allergy disappearing?(; my sister chose not to do it, because you might have to repeat the treatment for long lasting effects, but its still an option. Either way it's just a form of getting used to it.
Good luck(: - Kaity

3)   If allergies are a true problem and interfere with your lifestyle, I'd talk to your doctor about allergy shots.

Allergy shots are NOT a medication. Instead, they are an "extract" of what you are allergic to. The doctor injects you weekly with a tiny amount of whatever you're allergic to so your body gets used to it. The trick is that they start with a REALLY small dose so your immune system doesn't notice it, then gradually increase the dose over time until you're no longer sensitive to it.

Just being around the dog won't make the allergy go away, because your body is constantly fighting it. Because you already have the dog though, you have a little bit of a tolerance you can't feel. If you get rid of your dog now and turn around and get a new one 10 years from now, your symptoms will be a LOT worse.

If you aren't content taking a daily indoor/outdoor allergy medication (such a Zyrtec, which is really cheap honestly) talk to your doc about allergy shots. They may be a good option for you. Like I said, it's not a medication.

EDIT: Something that bothers a lot of people about allergy shots is the fear of needles. Don't worry about it. I had a fear of needles before I got my shots, but these aren't like normal injections. Instead of jabbing you in the arm and injecting a large amount of fluid into your muscle, they take a short little pin and poke a few drops of the "extract" into the fat of your arm. Though you might feel a little itchy and irritated afterwards (after all, you're allergic to it), the "injection" itself you don't even feel. - Jasmine

Stepped on a rusted nail but it barely broke skin. Should I go see a doctor for tetnus?

Question 1
Stepped on a rusted nail but it barely broke skin. Should I go see a doctor for tetnus?...  I was walking in woods and I stepped on a rusted nail. Went through the whole shoe. but it barely pricked me and bled just a tiny bit. Should I see a doctor for a tetnus shot?
Please and thank you for the answers.

Answers
1)   You're good. Plus a tetanus shot lasts 10 yrs. If u had one in the last 10 yrs ur good. - Mr Dickman

2)   I wouldn't worry about this scratch, but if you are due for a tetanus shot you should definitely get one. - Ally

3)   better to be safe than sorry. Tiny fragments of metal or rust may have contaminated the wound. - Daniel Holmes

4)   The same thing happened to me, except it was from a rusty nail on a skate ramp.
All i did was run it under warm water and put peroxide on it with a band-aid. Good as new in a few days... - Anna Blue

5)   I believe if you look at the Tetanus statistics you will see that only about 15 people got tetanus last year in the entire United States. It has become extremely rare because we don't have animals on the streets anymore like we used to before cars. An antibiotic will work as well as a poison injection of tetanus vaccine, but the chances of you getting tetanus from that rusty nail is extremely rare. Rusty nails have not been linked to tetanus anyway, that is a myth.

good luck to you - onlymatch4u

Question 5
What would you consider the major influence on scientific discovery of treatment and management of HIV/AIDS?...

Answers
1)   The diagnosis of AIDS as a separate problem and its underlying cause in the beginning of the 1980s. Without the ability to diagnose AIDS and HIV, we'd have trouble treating or managing HIV and AIDS. - Zarn

2)   NONE, absolutely none. HIV is a virus and they are not even sure it causes AIDS. Some believe it does, but many people are now immune to HIV infections. Like all infective diseases, the human race will become immune to it over time. More people got small pox from the vaccine than the disease, just like polio where more people got polio from the vaccine than from the disease. Small pox was eliminated from the human race by improved sanitation, better personal hygiene, and quarantine than anything else. HIV will take the same course over time.

good luck to you - onlymatch4u
