I HATE ACNE!!!! Help?!?!?

Question 1
I HATE ACNE!!!! Help?!?!?...  ever since I was in 7th grade I hav had acne n it's not very severe but it's still extreamly noticeable... I hav tried EVERYTHING but nothing seems to work... Proactive helped alot but I still had mild acne my sister got fired from the proactive stand in the mall so I didn't get discounts n it cost to much for me n now my acne is almost outa control iv tryed opening my pores with heat washing then closing them with cold water... But it's not working I wash my face every night and every morning n my co-worker suggested a spot treatment n I started using it yesterday but it doesn't really look like it's guna work so well.... May b making it worse... Idk if I'm stressed or not eating right but does anyone hav another suggestion about how to help? How long till acne stops? Am I guna hav it my whole life?! I am now 18 and graduated last year...

Answers
1)   Take vitamin A and/or drink tomato juice. It worked for me
Doctor recommended them. - THE Cupid HATER

2)   Don;t worry yourself, acne does reduce as you get older. The normal periods are however from 13yrs - 21yrs. EVERYONE is different though.

Stress will cause spots, greasy foods and junk food will do the same.

You need to drink plenty of water per day, at least 2 pints. Proactive is good, but as you say can be expensive. I would check out the internet if I was you and go for a product in your price range that has a lot of testimonials and a money back guarantee if it doesn't work for you. There are a number of good ones, some better that Proactive. A quick search in google will help.

Hard to say when the acne will go, as everyone is different. Normally will be gone for you soon, so don't stress about it.

The thing to remember with any acne treatment is that you have to use it every day and over a consistent period of time, say 56 days. This will give your skin chance to remove the effects of acne on the skin.

Avoid the cheap 'over the counter products', they may work short term, but have poor reviews when used long term. Go for a natural treatment like Clear Pores, or Exposed.

Hope this helps - Pete Ford

3)   Try going to see a dermatologist, when i went they gave me medicine to take orally that reduced the size of my pores, and gave me prescription grade creams that really helped clear my skin up. But if seeing a dermo isnt possible, keep washing your skin in the mornings and before bed, do not pick at your skin and watch what your putting on your face that may be clogging your pores, like moisturizer or make up. I recommend a gentle exfoliating wash, i use Noxzema " Clean Blemish Control " its oil free and has salicylic acid, it really helps me. Changing your pillow case frequently also helps reduce bacteria getting into your pores, just make sure when touching your face your hands are clean, and don't pick or pop it only makes it worse! - Megan

4)   I had sore, embarrassing facial acne on and off for 4 years, visits to doctors, hospitals and numerous antibiotics, and conclusions later it just got worse I felt in despair, Until 4 weeks ago i went to the chemist and they recommended Panoxyl Aquagel 5% and what can i say very impressive with little side effects too, and my face is clear. now i can have a clean shave something i couldnt do for years.

use clearsil face scrub, wash & dry, then apply generously panoxyl to the effected area, do this once a day, also change pillowcase regularly and dont pick, squeeze or touch the effected area.

My results. (The bigger the area the longer it takes, mine was big)
week 1 - skin became a little tender, red, flaky and dry but spots were still there.
week 2 - red & flakyness eased off, spots became less puss filled.
week 3 - no redness with slight dry skin, spots dryed up.
week 4 - applied less cream than normal,no redness a little dry skin no spots at all just fading marks were spots where.

This worked for me 100%, stick with it and your skin will get use to the cream, its worth the results, highly recommended.
if you find your skin becomes too dry e45 works well a couple of hours after applying panoxyl. - keith

5)   Green vegetables - plenty of them! Then be patient. - Malcolm

6)   Have you tried Dermalogica?? If not try go to the Dermalogica website they have a range called Clean start that is aimed at teenage problem skin, if you go to the website u will be able to find the nearest salon to you that you can go into and have someone have a look at your skin and advise you on what products will help you! i work in a salon that uses Dermalogica and we see many young people coming in with the same problems as you, Clean start has always helped! :D - DAVID M

Question 2
extremely sharp stabbing heart pains?...  I keep getting really sharp stabbing pains in my heart, they don't last long but i find it hard to breathe when they do.
I purge some meals (throw up) and I've used a ab toning belt recently, is that causing the pain?

Answers
1)   Probably. You are probably causing acid reflux with the belt, and further irritating your esophagus by inducing vomiting. This can lead to esophageal cancer later in life.
Quit while you can. - Ralph 124c41

2)   You cannot get stabbing pains in the heart. Sounds like you have acid indecision or reflux which can give you pains around the heart. See your Doctor. - Kernow Lady

3)   I wouldn't say that the ab toning belt is responsible but I'm guessing that you work out? It could be that you have an iron deficiency or some kind of nutrient/vitamin lacking in your bloodstream causing your heart to work faster and harder than it should be.

I used to get stabbing pains in my heart and it turned out that I had high cholesterol that runs in the family regardless of weight, diet etc. The only thing that controls it is regular medication and obviously a low intake of salt and fat, regular exercise helps too.

The stabbing pains your getting could be anything at all - stress, your type of diet etc. Throwing up your food is doing you no good either. I suggest that just to be on the safe side you see your doctor who will be able to tell you what's going on by doing bood tests or you can ask for an ECG and they can monitor your heart properly to see what the problem is. Good luck =) - Mimi

4)   If you are experiencing heart pain, you shouldn't be messing around here asking questions, but should be seeing your doctor
There are other things which cause pain in the area of your chest which houses your heart - a hiatus hernia, wind, indigestion, nerve pains.
Making yourself vomit regularly, causes hydrochloric acid in your food tube (oesophagus) which can burn the lining causing pain and ulceration, as well as rotting your teeth.
See your doc. - Veronica Alicia

Question 3
How can I keep from getting sick when my roommate has a cold?...  My roommate has had a bad cold for the past 4 or 5 days and up until a day ago I felt fine. I developed a slight cough last night and this morning I had a sore throat but some honey took care of that. What other measures can I take to keep this cold from developing into a full blown nightmare? I'm trying to go the most natural route possible.
I also made some fresh ginger tea and got some chicken noodle soup for lunch. Been eating the hell out of some fresh spinach too.

Question 4
Is it possible to have headaches from strong ammonia smells?...  Like drying oil paints and nail polish remover smells? They are painting the whole office building and the smell is everywhere and my head hurts big time.

Answers
1)   yes, just like you can get a headache from someones strong perfume, or strong smell of gasoline. - Justin Insley

2)   Yes, it is.

However, you are more likely to be smelling VOC evaporates from the alkyds in the paint and the acetate in the nail polish remover. - coldfuse

3)   nail polish remover is one of the most volatile, toxic substances around. it,s sold in tiny containers, so it escapes regulation. the answer concerning volatiles in paints is very valid. - David

4)   Chemicals such as oil based paints, nail polish and ammonia can definitely cause headaches. Always have plenty of ventilation, (open a window, use fans to blow contaminated air out of the room) and take frequent breaks to clear the fumes from your system.

Inhaled ammonia fumes burn your nose, throat and respiratory tract. It can also cause nose and throat irritation and coughing.

Report your health concerns to the building manager and ask them to properly ventilate while painting. - MARY ANN

Question 5
How do you hide genital psoriasis?...  I'm 20 and i've been diagnosed with genital psoriasis. I was just wondering if there's a way to disguise it while waiting for the treatment to work, as i'm quite embarassed to get changed in the gym. Thank you

Answers
1)   Psoriasis is a skin condition that doesn't look very nice, as you well know.

Get hold of a moisturizer and apply it to the area AFTER you apply your treatment NOT before. Make sure that it is un perfumed or else it will give a burning sensation....not recommended!

The best solution is 'aloe vera', must be 100% natural, but it should work wonders

Good luck and hope this helps. - Pete Ford

2)   You could try wearing very light linen pants under your ordinary briefs. The British Association of Skin Camoflage makes a make up which will hide psoriasis. Maybe there is a US equivalent (if you are from the US) but I don't know if it would work on the genital area - pittyakker@btopenworld.com
