Question 2
High blood pressure signs?...  I'm being watched slowely for high blood pressure because I'm 16. I've cut out sugars and things that will make it higher. The past few days I've had over whelming headaches in the back and front of my head and hurts my eyes. I'm super dizzy and can't stand or sit in one place without not feeling like I'm gonna pass out. Should I make a sooner appointment to go in ? Its not till july.

Answers
1)   I would call the receptionist at your doctors office and explain to her your symptoms Have her ask your doctor if they feel you should be seen sooner, He knows your medical history obviously better then we do and he can make a decision. - taylor g

2)   You can never be too careful especially with high BP. You should set an appointment with your doctor to make that check-up earlier and explain to him all your symptoms. It's okay if it will turn up to be nothing but just headaches but you can never be too sure.

Also, ask him about omega 3 fish oil supplements if you're on any other drug because omega 3s can help lower triglyceride levels to protect your heart from our high BP. You're still very young, you might want to add exercise to your lifestyle change or just brisk walking or jogging. Cardio exercises like that will help a lot.

Good luck!

3)   At your age I highly doubt you have issues with your blood pressure. But it never hurts to go to the doctor. - Jenna do Brasileira

4)   High blood pressure usually causes no symptoms and high blood pressure often is labeled "the silent killer." People who have high blood pressure typically don't know it until their blood pressure is measured.
Sometimes people with markedly elevated blood pressure may develop:
•headache,
•dizziness,
•blurred vision,
•nausea and vomiting, and
•chest pain and shortness of breath.
People often do not seek medical care until they have symptoms arising from the organ damage caused by chronic (ongoing, long-term) high blood pressure. The following types of organ damage are commonly seen in chronic high blood pressure:
•Heart attack
•Heart failure
•Stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA)
•Kidney failure
•Eye damage with progressive vision loss
•Peripheral arterial disease causing leg pain with walking (claudication)
•Outpouchings of the aorta, called aneurysms
About 1% of people with high blood pressure do not seek medical care until the high blood pressure is very severe, a condition known as malignant hypertension.
•In malignant hypertension, the diastolic blood pressure (the lower number) often exceeds 140 mm Hg.
•Malignant hypertension may be associated with headache, lightheadedness, nausea, vomiting, and stroke like symptoms
•Malignant hypertension requires emergency intervention and lowering of blood pressure to prevent brain hemorrhage or stroke.
It is of utmost importance to realize that high blood pressure can be unrecognized for years, causing no symptoms but causing progressive damage to the heart, other organs, and blood vessels. - Caiyuan Li

Question 3
What are some easy one-step acne treatments?...  I tried Proactiv, but it wouldn't help, and I also couldn't keep up with the 3 steps, because my days are always full and time is hard to get. So what are some affordable one-step acne treatments that actually work?
Help please!

Answers
1)   This might sound redundant, but get a bar of soap, wet it, and rub it on your face. Don't rinse for atleast 10 minutes. It dries your acne up and most of the time prevents it from reappearing. Worked for me and it was totally by accident. - Oscar Chavarin

2)   While ur friend is driving, open your door as the car is moving at a high speed and lay your face on the road firmly. Itl clean everything right off. Especially the acne - HarviyL

3)   I have been putting honey and crushed, dry oatmeal on my face. Wait about 5-10 minutes and wash off with Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Acne Wash Cream (cream is less drying than the gel version). Sorry it is actually 2 steps but the honey/dry oatmeal works well and it is cheap. Doing this has allowed me to stop taking tetracycline for my acne.

Some sites say to cook the oatmeal into a mask but this is more work, try this first and then if needed you can cook it. Just google "acne oatmeal, honey mask" and you should find this. - purplebutterfly

My cousin has got meningitis im scared!?...  can someone tell me what the basic meaning of it is and can it be treated i heard it can cuz perminant brain damage im scared he is in hospital on a drip please tell me this in basic terms

Answers
1)   meningitis is inflammation of the meninges of the brain . it is fatal because it infects the brain itself . however it could be treated usually in the intensive care unit by massive dose of antibiotics ,intravenous fluids . palliative treatments like complete bed rest . pain relivers and good nutrition . - lolit

2)   Untreated, bacterial meningitis is almost always fatal. Viral meningitis, in contrast, tends to resolve spontaneously and is rarely fatal. With treatment, mortality (risk of death) from bacterial meningitis depends on the age of the patient and the underlying cause. Of the newborn patients, 20–30% may die from an episode of bacterial meningitis. This risk is much lower in older children, whose mortality is about 2%, but rises again to about 19–37% in adults. Risk of death is predicted by various factors apart from age, such as the pathogen and the time it takes for the pathogen to be cleared from the cerebrospinal fluid, the severity of the generalized illness, decreased level of consciousness or abnormally low count of white blood cells in the CSF. Meningitis caused by H. influenzae and meningococci has a better prognosis compared to cases caused by group B streptococci, coliforms and S. pneumonia. In adults, too, meningococcal meningitis has a lower mortality (3–7%) than pneumococcal disease. - Yee Yee

3)   Meningitis is a bacterial infection of the membranes covering the brain and the spinal chord. It can be caused by many different things, but most often it is treated with antibiotics. The IV drip that your cousin has is probably being used to treat or prevent some possible symptoms of meningitis (most notably brain swelling, shock, and seizures).

Again, I don't know what type of meningitis your cousin has, but most types of viral meningitis are usually not too serious and clear up after about 2 weeks without any major complications.

I know it's scary, but talking to the doctor or nurses can be very comforting. They will be able to give you way more information than we can here on the internet.

I wish your cousin the very best. :) - SummerExpat

What works for getting rid of acne scars?...  I have seen the home remedies and have searched the types of creams, but I would like some people to comment with experience on what has worked for them, and what hasn't.

Answers
1)   your best bet would be a cosmetic procedure such as a chemical peel, or, in worse cases, dermabrasion. Creams take years with little results, and are not guaranteed to work. In the end, you may end up spending more on the creams than paying for a single procedure.

for more info, consult a dermatologist. - anony mouse

2)   I got a prescription for RETIN-A MICRO® (tretinoin gel). It's only available by prescription. Basically the retinol (stuff we see in commercials) but the real deal only available from a doctor. It worked like magic. Didn't erase scars but most definately made my skin look 100% better.

I've heard that vitamin C based moisterizers work really well too. Thing is; once a jar of vitamin C based cream is opened it looses most of it's potency. Avon makes a good one probably the best for your buck deal. - irishmama1969

3)   Creams are generally slow to work, if at all. Did see a tv documentary where they used laser therapy with great success removing all kinds of scarring. The patients looked great after only a week or so. - Mum

4)   The quickest, surely to work, solution would be laser treatment. Sure, there are other solutions, but they take longer, and longer usually means more pain or spending. Before treatment you do need to eliminate existing acne - Lab Series and ProActive works for me. - Heero Yuy

5)   I suggest TRY Scarxus!
I use it 7 weeks, my acne scars was completely gone!

How do I know if i'm OCD?...  To start this off.
Whenever i move something somewhere that i am comfortable with it, if someone moves it, it will get under my skin and i can't think about anything but that. And it makes my whole body feel weird. Like say i site a candle in the middle of my table, and then someone moves it. it bothers me, not cause they moved it, but because i feel like it's not right. and my whole family knows that it bothers me and that i cant stop how it makes me feel. But they always do stuff like that. and they know it gets to me. And they get mad when i say something about it or when i fix it. And they don't wanna help me work with it. And say i go out somewhere or i wake up the next morning, the first thing i have to do is go around my house and put everything back in it place like how it was before i left or went to bed. and everyday it's the same thing. I think it's either OCD or my family is just lazy and sloppy and they don't wanna help me feel comfortable. Like they will leave things hanging off of tables, or take food and dishes out of the cabinet and not put them back up, cause they know when i see it i will have to do it or it bothers me. Is the OCD or is it something else? it's minor things, but it still gets to me. Please help.

1)   It's possible, but OCD is a very complex disorder. If you're genuinely concerned and want some help, I recommend seeing a psychologist. - anony mouse

We used to have a bearded dragon which he loved, but unfortunately it died a couple of months ago. We are now looking for another pet but are not sure what options we have. A friend suggested a tortoise and we have been investigating that option. Another suggested a bird - but feathers play his asthmas up big time. Any other suggestions?

Answers
1)   Are you 100% sure that it is indeed the fur of animals that he is allergic too? Many people are allergic to the dander or the saliva or even the food and think it is the fur.

If you are definately sure it is the fur then yes, anything in the fish or reptile dept would be good. Bearded dragons are great. If he took good care of it, he might be ready for a snake. (Are you? LOL).

Snake make awesome pets. Talk to various reptile groups (ever major area has atleast one) and they can help you decide which would fit your lifestyle the best. Not a fan of pet stores so they could also help you get one and all of it's proper care and housing.

What should I do with these pimples or cysts?...  I have the cysts or nodules on my chest. I used to have only 1 last year but now I have 2, close together. And I feel like the 3rd one is coming up because I can feel the lump underneath my skin.
I had tried to squeeze it or pop it out many times but it wouldn't come out. I figured out that the heads are really deep under my skin and I feel no pain from attacking these pimples (I thought they might be some sort of pimples). Absolutely no pain.
I went to see my doctor in March. She refused to touch it and only gave me benzoly peroxide. I have been using it but those things are still on my chest.

Answers
1)   You should STOP trying to pop/squeeze them, immediately.

Cysts like those are highly infectious and contagious. The newer ones probably formed BECAUSE you squeezed them, and infected the nearby pores.

What should you do? Continue using the meds you were prescribed AS prescribed, don't stop unless you're getting a bad reaction, and if nothing happens then bring it up once again to your doctor. - Xander

4)   Unfortunately not. Cancer is a collective term for approximately 200 different diseases. Every cell type in your body can (in principle) develop into its own type of cancer. So it is not all that surprising that we don't have, and most likely won’t find a single cure for all cancers.

That being said, many cancers are cured on a daily basis. Most of them through surgery, but some of them are treated with additional radio-/chemotherapy. And some cancers are cured by chemotherapy alone.

1) Owners/employees (And their love ones) of pharmaceutical companies suffer from cancer too.
2) Researchers wouldn't be able to keep their mouth shut if they found a miraculous cure or even a major breakthrough.
3) Progress in cancer treatment is happening even though not as fast as we all would like to. Some cancers are even easily cured.
4) Pharmaceutical companies wouldn't lose money for finding a cure - They would increase their income considerably.
5) Also members of governments (and their love ones) sometimes get cancer

Question 3
What can cause heart palpitations?...  The past couple of weeks I've been dealing with minor heart palpitations.
Nothing severe, and it only seems to be happening at night.
The first time I had it was one night, I had a very stressful day dealing with family issues and I had severe anxiety throughout the whole day. I was lying in bed and about to fall asleep but suddenly my heart would beat very hard occasionally and my heartbeat was irregular. It would also catch my breath so my breathing became irregular for a while as well. It kept happening every 5 minutes or so for about 30 minutes. My friend said it was due to anxiety and stress.
Since then, I've had palpitations maybe 4 or 5 times, but it was only for a minute or so each time, so not as bad compared to the first time.
I think it keeps happening because I keep dreading going to bed because I worry it will happen again, so I'm very worried and anxious, but obviously I am aware it can be anything.

Anyway, my question is, can stress and anxiety cause heart palpitations?

I'm going to my family doctor this week and will get blood tests done and such, but I'm just wondering in general.

Answers
1)   death? - HerbalPhil Wellness Warrior!

2)   Yes i get them everyday because of anxiety. And sometimes they are so bad i feel like im having a heart attack it can be really scary . - MimMie

3)   Get some magnesium... NOW Foods makes a good one - "Reverse Ratio 2:1" - more magnesium than calcium. Take three of those a day for a couple weeks - 800 mgs/day.

ALSO - and very important - since this is happening at night - this can be "sleep apnea" which is real hard on your heart. You might not be breathing well at night - and this can lead to congestive heart failure. So stick that in the back of your head - you might need to treat that.

But to your question - OH YES - anxiety causes lots of heart palpitations - but don't rule out the physical reasons as well. - Vulcan

What skin condition are my rashes?...  I have 4 little red rashes on various parts of my body: the first and most noticeable is the one next to my navel. I have one on each elbow, and the last one is in the middle of my upper arm.

They're all itchy, scaly/flaky, and red. I have had these rashes before about a year or two ago, and was given (I believe) a steroid cream that took care of them. What really gets me, is that they all came back in the same exact spots.

Does anyone know what this could be? I have a Dr's appointment but I won't get in for about a week and a half.

1)   about it you can get information from here http://heansmd42.notlong.com/AAeLx8R - Elspet Vina

2)   I think that it should only be obvious that it comes back in the same spot. If you were treated with a steroid cream you most likely had a little problem with eczema or similar allergic rash. It may be annoying, but it is easy to treat. I would guess another steroid cream would be proscribed, they are extremely fast and effective! Just be careful with the steroid cream, it does thin the skin, so use sparingly! - twigs421

3)   It's probably rosacea or ezcema - Kelly Willmon

4)   It's sort of sounds like Keratosis Pilaris which is a condition where the skin produces too much Keratin and it forms hardness under the hair follicle as well as a red rash at the surface.

For a glucose test 6.0 is good right?...  Im not a diabetic but I took a home a1c tst to make sure. I got a 6.0 is it good?

Answers
1)   Please see ---> all-home-remedies.com

I am sure you will find the best solution at this site - Melissa

2)   Well, put it this way, I AM diabetic - a type 2 diabetic, and my last A1C was 5.2 (BTW: I'm not on medication, just eating properly) if I remember, so for you to NOT be a diabetic and get a 6, I'd go see your Dr... When a diabetic takes an A1C and gets 6 or above, they're considered to not have good control on their sugar levels. Non-diabetics with that result are considered "borderline" diabetics with a 6. - Brian Kuhn

3)   The Hgb A1c blood test can have different normals depending on the lab methods used. However, 6% ( 0.060) or less is the normal hgb A1c for people without diabetes. So your home test is normal.

For people with diabetes, guidelines for the A1c test are typically 7% ( 0.070) or less.

However, if you are anemic your a1c can tend to have a lower reading, when in fact, your levels could be high. A1c tracks your blood glucose levels for the past 3 months. Check with your doctor if you feel you need further testing other than the home A1c in order to get a definitive medical evaluation on your blood glucose levels esp. if you are having symptoms.

Hope this helps. - syl c.

Why does it cost to much to "find" the "cure" to AIDS?

Question 1
Why does it cost to much to "find" the "cure" to AIDS?...  Celebrities donates MILLIONS OF MILLIONS of money all that money must add up to like several BILLIONS maybe a trillion. Same with charities. its crazy how much money is being put into finding the cure for aids, which feels like impossible because we still haven't found it yet. So where does this money end up? And why does it cost so much? It seems RIDICULOUS to me. Also if the cure were found how much do you think it would cost to get "treatment"? I think you'd have to be rich to get the cure because it cost soooooooooo much trying to make it.
Ok but does it cost a million dollars to do that? That's so crazy. I wouldn't even think about giving millions of dollars to finding the cure to aids because they already have so much. Or do spend it? Like really to do that cell thing does it really cost 10 million dollars? Crazy.

Answers
1)   like the common cold, AIDS evolves often. it is nearly impossible because we can not find a cure for a constantly evolving disease. it is a bummer that that is true...but unfortunately it is not likely that we will EVER find a cure. - Zander Day

2)   Well, basically AIds is a virus. A virus is very hard to cure because it uses your DNA and cells to reproduce. If you try to kill the virus you end up killing the person. The money is going in to finding ways to selectively kill only the cells that have the AIDS virus in them. There are now ways to slow it's reproduction but no one can find a way to stop it completely. That is why so many HIV positive people don't ever end up with AIDS. As soon as they find a guaranteed way to stop the virus it will be easier to find a way to kill it. - The Mosh Pit Queen: Hoser 4 Life

3)   Finding cures for any disease costs a lot of money because a lot of research has to be conducted, both on the disease itself, and trialing treatments to find ones that may be effective. This requires a lot of very expensive laboratory equipment, and skilled scientists. When a treatment is finally found, it has to go through rigorous testing, and, again, this costs money. When a treatment is finally released for general use, it may, initially be expensive, but as more people buy it, the development cost can be spread more, and it becomes cheaper. - justme

4)   AIDS is a virus, not a bacteria or infection, so there will never be a "cure," just like there is no medicine that can get you over a common cold. There is, however, treatment, just like there is cold medicine to help ease your cold symptoms.

The treatment for AIDS is commonly reffered to as HAART treatment. It's formally called Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy. Basically, it suppresses the symptoms of AIDS so effectively that in many cases, the virus can no longer be detected in a normal blood test. People on HAART no longer die from AIDS. HAART is very expensive, though, so people in third world countries do not have much access to it. In the US, however, the government will pay for your treatment, so even the poor have access to it (if they seek out the available resources, that is).

The person still has AIDS, though, because once diagnosed with AIDS, you can no longer regress back into being HIV positive (There is a movement trying to change this).

The money donated to AIDS charities don't just go to "finding a cure." They are invested in prevention (mainly through educational programs), treatment for those in third world countries, and education on how to deal with AIDS for those infected and their families.

I hope this helped! - yourjellybaby

5)   The research is hard for finding out the
right retro viral capsules for AIDS.
When there extensive research,
it is natural that money is spent like water.
But if achieved, everything is forgotten
by the mankind. - ARRAO

Question 4
Help!!! I have super oily skin is there anything that you guys recommend to help control my greasy face?...  Oily

Answers
1)   Find a cleanser that's not harsh on your skin. I had that problem as a teenager, but many of the "acne" face products weren't good for my skin. Try using an Aveeno oatmeal soap bar, unscented. Make sure you use makeup products that are homeogenic and are 100% oil-free. I like to use Clinique's gel lotion. It costs about $20 but lasts a long time.

You might just have to try a lot of different things to find what works best for you. I still have to shop around quite a bit to find the right makeups and soaps. - Laurie

2)   Angela,

It sounds like you just need a good facial astringent. Facial astringent is as good in generic form as it is in brand name form since it all has the same effective ingredients (alcohol). The generics only cost less. The alcohol base to astringents will sap out all of the oil that clogs your skin. Just apply a fair amount to a cotton ball and make sure that you thoroughly cleanse your face using circular motions. Even get your neck, behind your ears and on the back of your neck and shoulders (these areas collect A LOT of oil). As you are cleaning your skin pay attention to your cotton ball and when you see the cotton ball has collected a good amount of dirt and oil just throw it away and repeat. Do this about every other day because if you overdo it then it will make your skin dry and deprive it of the natural oil balance that it needs. This should help, thanks.

Question 4
What to expect in the end with pancreatic cancer?...  My mom was diagnosed 3 weeks ago w/ stage 4 that has mast... she wants to go to UCLA for second opinion, but don't we know we wont hear a different outcome. She is on methadone and dilaudid we monitor her prescriptions but she is in a stupor, incoherent and lethargic most of the time... she needs help doing mostly everything. this has been so hard on the family. Me and my sister stay here most of the time taking care of her. She is 64 and was babysitting my 5 month old twins 3 days a week... then we got the news and after that she had pneumonia and was on life support in icu for a week... she did have one round of chemo in hopes of shrinking a tumor to ease the pain. Im afraid she'll never be the way she was before and sometimes we cant tell if she should be back in hospital or if her condition is part of how the cancer is making her feel. Its been hard getting answers I think things will be better after palliative care starts.

Acne and breakouts...?...  What kind of foods cause breakouts? and how to avoid them?

Answers
1)   # Eat more foods high in zinc and supplement with Vitamin A. Zinc is an antibacterial agent. Eat fruits such as strawberries, grapes and pineapple. Avoid processed foods, because they have iodine which can worsen acne. Avoid hydrogenated oils, shortenings and margarines, lots of fried foods and spicy foods. Eating these foods continually eventually shows up on your face.
