Aunt has cancer and is constipated, need help?

Question 1
Aunt has cancer and is constipated, need help?...  So my aunt has cancer,in her ribs, vertabrae, and possibly other places. She is on very strong pain killers, and has not stared chemo yet.She is unable to have a bowel movement, due to a blockage, which is a side effect of most of her pain killers. We(my mom,and I) looked up what to do and most of what we found was to try fiber, excercise(stupid),but that's for preventing it,and she needs it out because she hasn't had a bowel movement in almost a week. She won't talk to her doctor about it,and refuses to go to the hospital. She thinks with a glycerine suppository, and maybe some one helping her get it out she would be okay. What we are wondering is, is it a good idea to try and remove it,like by hand,or does she need to go to the hospital?Do you know anything about constipation with cancer patients?Have any advice? If you do it would help alot.We are going to call her doctor and try and find what would help her as soon as possible, but some info now would be nice.Thank you.

2)   We've done the laxative thing for my 4 year old son, Conrad. He is fighting brain cancer and has experienced horrific constipation. However, they make him uncomfortable and make quite the mess. We've found that getting him to eat a few prunes a day or some prune juice, along with some fiber-one cereal/granola bars, we can keep him pretty regular. You just need to get on the right routine. Your aunt should talk to her doctor, though. Yes, it is embarrassing, but doctors are used to that sort of thing. - Mommy to Super Conrad and Twins

3)   The the doc that prescribed the pain killers should also have prescribed a stool softener such as a"DOSS" a common scrip based softener. You can just go to the drug store and buy an over the counter product or just ask the pharmacist. - Waytootiny

4)   Common side effect from strong pain killers.

She needs to discuss a suitable stool softener or laxative with her treating Dr to make sure that whatever she takes does not interfere with her other treatment. - Tarkarri

5)   Phillips Milk of Magnesia!

I have MS and Migraine Disease. So I understand completely where she's coming from. Pain pills kill bowel movements. If she takes the Phillips, she should have a bowel movement within 6 hours if not sooner.

As for using a suppository and maybe someone helping her to take it out. NO! None of you are doctors and have no idea as to what you'd be doing. Not only that, but you don't even know for sure if she has an actual blockage that's stopping it from coming out. Chances are it's just the pain pills.

Now, after she's had her bowel movement, she needs to start eating properly to get her metabolism going again. She needs meals with simple protein like white meat chicken, egg whites, fish, salad greens, and fruit. If you can get her to eat very small meals every 2 hours. After a few days her metabolism will get back on track. It's working for me. I eat:

Breakfast: 1/2 cup oatmeal & 2 egg whites (boiled eggs)
Mid-morning snack: 2 oz. tuna & half grapefruit
Lunch: 2 oz chicken breast 1/2 cup of potato & 1 cup of greens or steamed veg
Mid-noon snack: 1-2 oz chicken breast or fish and 1/4 cup cantaloupe
Dinner: 2 oz grilled fist, 1/2 cup baked yams & 1-2 cups steamed veg
PM snack: 2 oz chicken breast & 1/2 cup mixed berried

I'm on a very strict diet right now because I've got a photo shoot coming up. So her portions can be much larger than mine. However, I'd keep to the type of food combinations that are illustrated here. Because it's these combinations that will keep her metabolism moving. At least, it should.

I hope I was of some help to you. Good luck and God Bless. - JustMe

Question 5
I think I have OCD. What do you think?...  My OCD (obsessive compulsion disorder) would be my fear of stuff being poisoned or drugged. Mostly everyday, I fear that the food someone made is poisoned, so I don't eat it often. I only eat what I make and restraunts. If I make it though, I always check experation dates and I look at it all over. If it has the slightest problem with it, I will not eat it. last sunday, I was at my grandma's for her retirement party. She made beer brats and a bunch of other things. Like jello, cake, catfish, hamburgers, salad, and so on. Like a picnik. I didn't eat anything after I heard she made beer brats because I was afraid they made other stuff with beer or it accidently got some in it. Just today, my dad bought me a new kind of water called Smart Water. I was too afraid to drink it. I thought it could have alchohol in it or drugs, or someone did something to it. I almost started crying and I rushed to my dad and started asking him abunch of questions about it. I had the courage to drink some after about an hour. It turns out to be normal water. I freak out about a lot of things like that. Especially things from the store. I'm afraid someone could have put drugs in it. I ate a graham cracker one time, that ended up to be four years expired. I cried for so long, thinking I was going to die or throw-up. Also, today, I was painting my closet. Before that though, I read the can and the warning like I do with everything. It said old paint could have lead in it, so what did I do? I was afraid to go in my closet, so I stayed out of it. Also, if I smell a cigarret, not close up or anything, but if someone drives by with a cigarret while I am outside, and I can smell it, I FREAK out. Also, I was supposed to take Liquid medicine for my nose ache, because I can't take a pill because I think I am going to choke on it, I didn't. I read the warning label and it said I could have allergic reactions or vomiting and stuff. I was afraid that would happen. I just can't get over these things. There are plenty more stories that I could share, but I have already typed too much. Do you think I have OCD? I don't overreact on purpose either. I really can't help it. My parents don't think I do, but do you think I do?
