Question 2
Why are cancer patients so positive and happy?...  I'm definitely not saying that's a bad thing - that's amazingly wonderful. I'm curious how they get so upbeat and positive. When my aunt was dying of pancreatic cancer - the worst on the list where she was young and healthy and engaged to get married then overnight was told she had a month or two to live, she became very upbeat, never showed any signs of unhappiness, never saw her cry. I wanted to be there to console her but never had the opportunity because she was so happy it confused me. My close friend went through chemo and radiation for lymphoma that returned. He was so upbeat he was the one consoling me and made me feel like I was over-reacting just for showing concern and was bugged by any signs of showing sadness. It seemed almost fake how indifferent and nonchalant he was when he's the type who gets worked up if there's a tiny stain on his clothes or his coffee doesn't taste perfect. My grandmother was the same way when she was diagnosed with terminal cancer, never once showed she was upset when I had a desire to want to console and be there, it felt like they were all depriving me sharing their true feelings unless they really were happy about dying, I'm just so confused.

What has inspired this question is I was watching the local news last night and they had a panel of cancer patients and they were giddy-happy. One lady came to the set straight from a chemo treatment and looked horrible and therefore I'm thinking must have physically felt terrible, she had worst stage ovarian cancer yet she looked like she had just won the lotto. I was craving for some emotion, to show that she is human, but she was happier than a chearleader so it seemed artificial. What are cancer patients so happy about and does the medication block any real emotions so they are like happy zombies or something?

Answers
1)   They have to be. They want to be. They don't want to lose the fight. So they stay happy for mental strength. - Farjan

2)   They are probably trying to not upset people around them, or covering up their emotions

Why do you want them to be sad all the time? - purple_panther321

3)   Because when this might be your last day to live, you don't have time to be upset. You're sick, but you appreciate being alive. I know what you're talking about, my friend Iliana was the same way, even the last time I talked to her before she passed on, when she was in the hospital again, she was still just so bright and happy and sweet to talk to. She was always that way. I miss her a lot. I remember when her bone marrow tests came back and the doctors told her she could go back to school and everything. Unfortunately she fell ill again a few months later, but she was so happy to hear that she could just go to school. - [ ★ .Strawberry Cough ]

4)   The first answerer is right you do it for strength and so that your illness and fears don't start to become everyone around yous fears.I head to clinic this tuesday to find out if I have it.My sister has been supporting me on the phone she's just had treatment and is now cancer free.I am scared witless it is a bad time but why make it worse by stressing and crying when smiling feels good and a happy mood allows the endorphins from the brain out which have feel good factors and healing qualities too. With a less stressful head you can see ways through with a stressful up tight mind and body your body has a harder time because its trying to combat that and combat the cancer.Laughing gets you through if you do want to rant you go to like minded people in cancer forums who know what it's like and will let you do so without it bringing family down.It can help them too to know others feel as scared as they do. - Wendy

5)   You should use nolvadex, it is the best about it you can get information from here http://canmdh62.notlong.com/AAtbHDw - Riley Elkin

Question 3
Blood in Stool, should I be concerned?...  Two days ago, I ate one of those small watermellons and yesterday my stool was red with seeds (sorry for the description). Yesterday I drank a red juice (Sobe) and this morning it was again red.

I feel 100% fine, and I am thinking I WILL not consume anything red. If it comes out again red then should I be concerned? Should I be now? I am sort of scared.

Thanks,

Dave

Answers
1)   Lol OMG Dave!! You are what you eat! You eat red, it comes out red. Goodness that made me smile.. You're fine dear - april

2)   its not blood...its whats your eating/drinking. - iceman

3)   As such there is no need to concern,as red stool does not mean you are passing blood all the time.
Just get your stool microscopy done,it will tell if it is blood or not.
It will come negative.
And do not stop eating red nutrients for this false scare.
They are good for health.
If and only if your stool microscopy shows occult or gross blood, then conmsult GI Doc. - MOHAN

4)   I think that red isn;t bad its black you have to worry about - purple_panther321

5)   Hi Dave,

I hope Becky and her uncle are doing well. I can’t tell from your description if you have blood in your stool or not, but given the fact that Becky had breast cancer and assuming you are about the same age, you may be due for a colonoscopy whether you have symptoms or not. I know it is not a pleasant thought, but colon cancer is so easily treated when found early often a colonoscopy is all that is needed. GI doctors used to think if you had no polyps at all at 50 years old the odds of getting colon cancer the rest of your life were slim to none. They have since raised that age, but it is still a good indication that it is a cancer you do not need to have much of a concern over. While you’re at it get a baseline PSA too. Your family needs you to be healthy and you do not need any more worries. Best wishes. - Denisedds
