Question 2
After surgery on appendix?...  Im 15 and on saturday i had an operation to take out my appendix. My mom said the operation took 2 hours. After i had the usual pain. Im at home now and sometimes i get a sharp pain in my right side, it only lasts a few seconds. It doesnt matter if im sitting, standing or lieing down. Is this normal or should i be worried??

Answers
1)   Perfectly normal. You're body was just invaded and is adjusting. I had phantom pains for about a month. - Food Dude

2)   I was 17 when I had my appendix surgery, and with pain meds, I never felt a thing after the surgery, unless you poke the area.

I'd say, no, that's not normal.

But then again, I have good tolerance for pain.
You can always call a doctor and ask. - Anne C

3)   Do you get this pain when you move? If you do it sounds like the scar is stretching a bit - this is no harm, if your skin healed with an unstretched scar it would become hard to move. The stitches on the inside are also healing up and when you move they are moving to.

If the pain lasts for more than 10 days you need to go and see the doctor just in case but I doubt it serious. If you get any brusing or strange colouration around the skin thn you need to go to the doctor straight away.

Hope you feel better soon :) :) :) - Cora

Answers
1)   Do some research on panic attacks since that might give you some insight. When you are feeling alarmed your body produces too much adrenaline which will make you feel short of breath. Concentrate on slowing your breathing down when you feel like this. Get in a quiet place and take a few slow, deep breaths. - Gep

2)   Whenever a person breathes more rapidly or deeply than the body requires, they are said to be hyperventilating. If a person experiences frequent bouts of hyperventilation, anxiety and panic attacks may be the cause. Shortness of breath and difficulty breathing is a common symptom of anxiety, especially when a person is having a panic attack.

Is It Dangerous?

Though hyperventilation is often frightening, it is usually not dangerous. Managing stress and anxiety is key to preventing hyperventilation in the first place since people who suffer from anxiety disorders may be predisposed to hyperventilation and other breathing difficulties.

What to do?

When hyperventilation does occur, it can be managed with basic breathing techniques. In many cases, hyperventilation can be self-managed in order to regain control of breathing. One way to do this is to sit or lie down and concentrate attention on the breath. Pinch one nostril and breathe through the nose using only one nostril or breathe through pursed lips to slow breathing down to about one breath every five seconds.

Diaphragmatic breathing, or slow, deep breathing from the abdomen, is another very useful technique that can be used to manage hyperventilation. - Queryman

3)   u should not take stress and try to relax urself when u feel angry and try yoga its better to regulate ur breath and plz tell me abt ur heart breath rate .... how many times ur heart beat in one minute - hessa

Question 4
how much damage does one cigarette or spliff do?...  Hi,
I have never considered myself a smoker, i do not buy packets of cigarettes but now and then I will smoke the odd spliff. I know people in other parts of the world think this is crazy, but in the UK we make spliffs with weed and tobacco mixed together. I am also aware that tobacco smoke permanently damages the lungs' alveoli.

When I smoke a spliff, am I actually killing a specific number of alveoli with each individual spliff, or is it a cumulative effect that over time will end up damaging them bit by bit until they no longer work properly?
PS. is there a level of smoking that can be considered safe?

Answers
1)   Every once an a while isn't terrible. It's pretty much cumulative. - Crested27

2)   It is an accumulative effect.

I'll talk here about tobacco. When you smoke a cigarette, the cells lining your throat die off and replaced by other cells which don't work as well.
The original cells lining your throat, move mucous from your lungs to the back of your throat where they can be swallowed. This process helps prevent infections.
When these cells are replaced, the mucous is longer able to reach the back of your throat, so you have to cough it up (known as a smoker's cough)

The earlier you quit, the better chance you have for your lungs to repair themselves and to prevent this and many other ailments (cancer, and emphysema to name a few) from happening to you. - Ivor G
