Question 4
Why do I always have pins and needles in my feet and hands?...  Can cancer or chemo make that happen? Does it go away?
My chemo is etoposide and ifosfamide and I got told it can make your toes go numb but they're not numb because I feel pins and needles!

Answers
1)   Poor Blood Circulation. Exercise, and if that doesn't help, seek medical help. - Jaime

2)   Im not a heme/onc specialist but certain chemo agents can cause peripheral neuropathy which is damage to nerves. This can cause the sensation of "pins and needles." Ask your oncologist if you can take gabapentin or a tricyclic antidepressant (this doesn't mean you are depressed) both of which can help peripheral neuropathy. - the ape man

3)   Same cause as numbness, you're just not all the way to numb yet. You know how sometimes you fall asleep on your arm the wrong way and your arm falls asleep and as you're trying to shake your arm awake you get that pins and needles feeling? It's just like that. Ifosfamide can result in a loss of red blood cell density as well as dehydration. Your oncologist should already be monitoring your red blood cell count while you are on this medication and you should drink more water as loss of blood volume due to dehydration can increase the instance of circulatory difficulties. - in the China Shop

What foods can i take to my friend who is hospitalized due to a stroke?...  He is on a soft diet, while i visited him he complained of the mashed potatoes, green beans and chicken or turkey, which is served everyday. I need suggestions on what i should take him, can i bake him some chicken breast? Is that soft? Should i make him a vegetable stew? should i avoid sodium, fat, sugar? Would a smoothie be the wrong thing to take? Any help would be appreciated.

Answers
1)   anthing with "gerber" on the label. - Barney Frank

2)   smoothie is good but make sure there is not seed of any food left in there.

the food in the hospital is really tasting bad, hence he complained. if you can cook for him, that would be great. please make sure everything must be cooked well and soft so that his body can digest well. sodium fat and sugar at low level should be okay unless he is diabetes and on medication for both diabetes and heart/hypertension.
check with the nurse if he is okay to take those because the nurse may not like what you bring in for the patient. - uscud
