my big toe hurts when touched with the slightest pressure and it looks like it has puss coming out of it?

Question 1
my big toe hurts when touched with the slightest pressure and it looks like it has puss coming out of it?...  I stubbed my toe playing soccer and normally I can just walk it off, it usually only hurts for a few days. This was 3 months ago. I tried icing it for 30 minutes then taking the ice off for 30 minutes. then repeating. But if it was swollen it hasnt gone down any. Not even when I iced it. And yesterday I went to clip my toenails when I saw that it had a scab on it that was nearly pulled off. I clipped the scab off and then this white puss like stuff came out a little (kinda like what comes out of zits, but this is sooo not a zit). And when you touch it it hurts really bad. A 10 on a 1-10 scale. And when I got out of the shower a few minutes ago I noticed the puss like stuff again. Also when i run or walk, sometimes it hurts to walk on it. Its freaking me out and its gross, and soccer and baskeball seasons are coming up, I have to get ready, what do I do??

1)   Yeah I used to have the same. it's an ingrowing toenail, you need to see a doctor ASAP, they can refer you to a chiropodist who can sort it out for you. - stiggy

2)   start soaking it in warm soapy water 3-4 times a day for at least 20 minutes.
Where the scab is, open the wound and squeeze gently to evacuate any pus in there and soak again to wash out the injury where the pus was.
Apply Bacitracin or Neosporin and cover.
Watch closely.
If you see any sign of a red line going up your toe and toward your foot, you have blood poisoning and need medical attention and antibiotics.
If you see no improvement in 2-3 days, see a doctor anyway.
You have some kind of infection in there.

EDIT: Stiggy is right, you probably developed an ingrown toenail. The soaking and cleaning treatment is still the same but better get it checked for instructions as to proper trimming for ingrown tonails. - ckngbbbls

3)   it probably means you broke the nail, it bled, and became infected. it happened to me with my thumb when I was four. the best thing you can do is go to the local free clinic (or E.R. if you have insurance) and tell them. they'll most likley split the nail, put some antisceptic on it, tell you to change to clean bandages regularly, and you'll be good in a few weeks. hope I helped (I screamed like a bitch when they did it, but again, I was four) - Protectivepuppy

4)   That would be an infection, probably caused when you stubbed your toe and possibly caused your toenail to push back into the bed slightly. Its nothing to worry about, but I would head to the doctor, who will probably prescribe a course of antibiotics, which will sort it out quickly.

If there's a resevoir of pus in there, he may refer you to have it drained, but most of the time, once the infection is dealt with, the pus will leak out by itself, probably without you noticing.

However, I would get it checked out, because whilst these things can ease up by themselves, it takes a long time.

In the meantime, there's no point putting ice on it now, as it isn't bruising which is causing the pain, its inflammation.

Until you see the doc, run about 6" of water into a bath (just normal bath temperature) and put a couple of capfuls of normal disinfectant (not sure if you have Dettol over there) and a handful of table salt in it and soak your feet in it for half an hour.

Make sure you dry them well afterwards, and if you can, leave your feet bare for the rest of the evening.

That should help a bit.

The reason it hurts is because it is swollen and tender inside, especially around the nail, so take some Ibuprofen or other anti-inflammatories to keep the pain down a bit. - Matt C

Question 2
Woke up this morning looking like this, should I go to the emergency room?...  I noticed a bump on my lip last night but I thought it was just a cold sore. Clearly not.

I've never had an allergic reaction before but I can only imagine that's what this is. My face isn't itchy but my ears are a bit swollen and really itchy, as are my elbows and knees. If I try to breathe too deeply it hurts my chest a little but other than that there's no breathing problems. I have a pretty sore throat but it's been like that for days so I don't think it's related.

I really have no idea what to do for allergies, should I just get some over the counter meds or go to the hospital?

2)   I would suggest going to the emergency room. If anything they can tell you whats wrong and help you even if its not life threating - Jessica

3)   Go see a doctor as it could be a reaction to something. - Sean R

Question 4
Why do I keep getting loose stools especially at work? could this be a sign of IBS?...  About three weeks ago I got sent home as I thought I had diarrhoea at work. I am wondering if anxiety may be causing havoc with my bowl movements. I went away for two weeks in the caribbean after the first few episodes of diarrhoea and only had one episode of loose stools. Today and yesterday I had loose stools being at work.

There are a lot of changes going on at work so I am wondering if this could be causing IBS?
