I think I’m diabetic?

Question 1
I think I’m diabetic?...  I’ve been having these symptoms for about 2 years now but never really worried about them untill now

I’m 16 years old, 184cm tall and weigh 70 kg, I regularly workout as I’m a competitive swimmer, my diet is healthy (last time I ate fast food was about 3 months ago). I also found out that my grandfather on my father’s side suffered from diabetes and lead to several amputations and loss of vision. I never had the chance to meet him.

For starters, at night I become extremely thirsty and literally drink liters of water to quench my thirst. Secondly I don’t know how to describe it, but I randomly in the day lose focus in the eyes and everything sort of blacks out and goes blurry this happens every roughly every 2 weeks, I have to give my head a good shake to restore normal vision

I haven’t told my parents about it, as it is the last thing they need is to worry about a sick son, and i haven’t been able to go to a doctor by myself as I’m only 16

Should I be worried or is it just nothing? Thanks for your time guys

1)   see a Dr...don't worry about your parents, you have to take care of yourself... - Chrys

2)   Go to doctor and see.How could we know. - Johnny

3)   With your exercise and diet routines I doubt that Type 2 diabetes is the cause of your symptoms. But, to be safe, I'd recommend a simple visit to a Doctor. What they do is ask you not to eat or drink for at least 12 hours before coming in to see them, and then they administer a simple blood test. If your glucose level is beyond a certain point then it's pretty indicative of diabetes. If not, then at least you'll know that and the Doc can check for other possible causes. Much good luck. - Jolly

4)   drinking large amounts of water is normal if you work out a ton, if you start passing out alot or if have to piss every 10 minutes you may want to look into it further. if your starting to have problems thinking your diabetic ask people if your breath has a fruit smell to it... if so you'll want to talk your folks into seeing a doc. - Carl the Llama

5)   It's okay, I myself suffer from type 2 diabetes.
One of the symptoms people don't notice is that diabetes cause people to drink a lot of water due to urinating the glucose out of your system.
My doctor told me to eat low amounts of glucose and drink loads of water and make sure not to eat anything too sugary
So in the end I believe you most likely have diabetes, but I am not 100% sure

I hoped this helped - Mistuh Kelvin

6)   dont worry about your parents, if it is diabetes.... its not going to go away. So letting it just get worse will have your parents worrying more. Drinking water with exercise is normal... .but the way you said liters and liters sounds like a lot. Just talk to your parents and see a doctor, or go to your local pharmacy, most can check your blood glucose for $5, and some can check your A1C (another diabetic blood test) for around $20. - kelly d

Have him start drinking a gallon of water a day, if it doesn't turn clear or at least yellow within 2 days then yeah get help. - Ken

3)   dehydration maybe its even possible to be blood or problems dealing with the kidneys - jabb

4)   Brown, dark or tea-colored urine has a variety of causes. The causes of brown or dark urine range from quite harmless to life-threatening. Let's begin with the benign, or harmless, causes of dark or brown urine. If your urine is showing signs of darkness, or looks more brown or tea-colored, than yellow, ask him if hes been eating the following foods lately: rhubarb pie, fava beans, blackberries, black licorice or any foods with dyes.
The following medical conditions can result in dark or brown urine:

-Liver ailments, particularly cirrhosis and hepatitis

-Tyrosinemia, a rare genetic disorder: elevated blood levels of tyrosine, an amino acid

-Acute glomerulonephritis, which is a kidney malady that impedes a kidney's ability to remove excess waste and fluids

-Bleeding in the kidney, ureter or bladder

-Hemolytic anemia (abnormal breakdown of red blood cells)

-Rhabdomyolysis, a side effect from statin drugs that causes muscle pain. Urine may be reddish brown or golden brown, and this is a hallmark sign of "rhabdo."

-Serious muscle injury

-Melanoma (causes a dark brown or even blackish color)

-Copper poisoning

Blood turns brownish after it gets old, and old blood in the urine can turn the fluid brown. A urinary tract infection, or urologic surgery, can result in this leftover, old blood. - Brianna

5)   Do: have him see a doctor
DO NOT: take Ken's advice

It might have something to do with his liver so don't put off seeing a doctor - ♠Mrs Reznor♠
