how to prevent ingrown toenail?

Question 1
how to prevent ingrown toenail?...  I just removed an ingrown part of my big toe.. hurt like hell but finally got it. how do i make sure this doesn't happen again? this isn't a permanent issue, this is the first time its happened to me. my nail looks weird now and not completely straight.. any thoughts of preventing it to grow into my skin?
Also i wanna keep working out, and running shoes are lil tight.. what should i do about that? should i just not exercise till it gets better?

Answers
1)   Keep any eye on it every other week. When it grows a little , keep on clipping it. - Answer Master

2)   keep trimming it,and dont wear shoes that are too tight on you/too small for you, should go back to normal in about a month or so - Serena

3)   u would want to soak it when u have any free time in warmish hot water..
otherwise try to keep it dry as possible and clean as possible
when u decide to cut the top of ur toenail make sure u dont make it round.. just cut it straight across..

5)   Home surgery for ingrown toenails isn't such a good idea. However, done is done. Ingrown toenails are due to two causes, usually both done at the same time. You have cut the toenails too short, and your shoes are either too small in size or too narrow in the toecap. Your toenail should never be shorter than the end of the toe itself. If you place a finger on the end of the toe, you should be able to feel the leading edge of the nail. So for starters, you will need to let the toenail grow out. Cutting the side of the nail will not help, because pressure on the nail itself is still going to be pushed out to the sides and ends of the nail. Cutting it left a "dagger" of sorts on the one side. When there is enough nail grown out to allow it, cut a "v" shaped notch dead center of the nail. That takes pressure off the sides and will help keep that edge lifted out of the skin. Now, check your shoes. If your toecap isn't wide enough to let you wiggle your piggies slightly apart inside the shoe, the toecap is too narrow. If the ends of any toes touch the shoe at the top, it's too small. You also need to be sure you are not pulling the sock on so tight as well, and that the piggies always have breathing and moving room. Cut the toenails even with the end of the toe, and straight across- never on a curve or at an angle. Any shoes which don't fit properly need to be replaced, as well, and never worn again. Cut correctly to the right length, and wear properly fitted shoes. That will eliminate future ingrown toenails in the majority of cases. Should you get another one, instead of cutting the nail so short, cut the v-shaped notch, and let it grow out on it's own. And recheck your shoes. - The mom

Question 2
Why am i sick all the time?...  So i am a 16 year old female. I have been feeling sick for 5 months. Imagine this....ok so you're just not hungry...you could still eat if you wanted to though. Like food looks good but you could live without it. Then as soon as you put it in your mouth, you get the stomach flu, you feel like throwing up and most of the time you do. Why am i never hungry and why can't i keep anything down? For 5 months i have been living with this and i have lost 30 pounds. I know it's not healthy but i have to be reminded to eat....otherwise i would have starved. Is there any kind of condition i have or anything that might help? Any suggestions, tips, hints anything?

3)   I am trying to determine if you are bulimic and covering for it, or if you have a condition like this. If you have seen a doctor about this, and have gotten checked out, then you are probably lactose intolerant or cannot eat certain foods because you have a gluten or another food allergy. The throwing up thing is not normal, unless you have an auto-responsive eating disorder, then you should see a therapist. People who have trained themselves to vomit sometimes can without gagging. I hope you get better. - Dude

Question 3
Just out of curiosity...how would you know if you had ADD?...  From descriptions about ADD, it seems like anyone can practically have it, so where do you draw the line?

Like what's the difference from being plain disorganized versus having ADD?
or being stressed/procrastinating a lot versus having ADD?
or daydreaming a lot vs. ADD?

how do people even diagnose ADD - the symptoms seem so general/subjective?

Or is it really that abnormal to start daydreaming during class lectures or conversations?

Answers
1)   a lot of people today claim they have ADD, i think it's just an excuse to get out of doing work, and taking drugs. To be honest i don't think ADD exists, i think it's just people that drink too much coffee or soda or candy, and want to get out of doing work. at least among teenagers. - Alec

2)   Yeah you're right. Pretty much the main criteria is that you were born after 1990.
If you were born in the noughties you are probably already on medication for it.

Having bad parents and no discipline is also a very important part in being diagnosed with ADD or ADHD. - Iggy

3)   Well, you need to go to a psychologist to diagnose if you have ADD. - George

Question 4
Lower right side abdominal pain?...  My Husband four years back went to the hospital for having excruciating pain in his lower right side and they did test and told him it was a fairly good sized kidney stone but he should pass it in little over a week. Well as big as it was he should have felt it pass and he never did. Ever since then he has been having the exact same pain in the exact same place just some times it's not as bad as other times. Well lately it's been getting worse and more often and he doesn't want to go to the hospital because he thinks it's a kidney stone and we don't have the money for him to go to the hospital. I have looked up the symptoms of kidney stones and the pain is suppose to be in the back and/or groin not the abdomen and it doesn't hurt him when he pees. I'm afraid it could be something bad I've looked up everything and nothing fits. He has no fevers, no yellowish skin, no vomiting. Like I said its been going on for years and i don't want him to have like kidney failure or something you know. If anyone has any idea what it could be pretty please help me figure it out. I'm scared for him and he's so stubborn.

Answers
1)   Better ask your doctor to do some diagnostic test for the abdomen like ultrasound. It is better to confirm what is the underlying cause of the pain because sometimes it is dangerous.

2)   It could very well be Appendicitis (in the appendix)
I had the same thing about a year ago and that's what it turned out to be, so I had my appendix removed before it burst. Appendicitis can be very painful and even lethal, if the appendix bursts so he should probably have it checked out and get an ultrasound. Hope this helps, and my best regards to your husband! :) - mabushiidiamond

3)   It's very likely a kidney stone. If it's trying to leave the kidney, the pain would be in the flank, since the kidneys are protected on each side by the lower ribs. Picture the ureters going from the kidneys to the bladder, and you can see that the pain could very well be pointed to from the front. Kidney stones can be very large (the first surgery was "cutting for stone") but small ones may pass and have a hard time getting through the ureter to the bladder. Then it would be painful passing from the bladder, too.

Pain on urination would indicate an infection, but this is not an infection.

I have reason to believe that cranberry juice will dissolve crystals left after someone pee'd in a can off and on for a few weeks, and then after drinking cranberry juice, the crystals were dissolved. I wonder of cranberry juice would also help dissolve a kidney stone, and I kind of think it would. Might take some time, but it would be worth a try, couldn't hurt.

If you can't stand the taste of the stuff, it's easier to sip it over ice cubes. Think of it as getting a shot that you don't want. Eventually you can even learn to like the stuff! (It will stop a kidney infection, too.) and it's a good idea to drink plenty of liquids, to dilute any chemicals that might be passing through. - jelmar106
