having bowel problems might it be serious?

Question 1
having bowel problems might it be serious?...  i am a healthy 22 yr old.

for the past maybe month or two i have noticed a change in my BM's i have had stomach cramps a few times (maybe six or seven) and have been constipated a few times and had diarrhea a few times.

I have changed my eating and exercise habits. I have started working out a lot and eating a lot more vegetables as well as drinking more homemade vegetable and fruit juices. I have also cut down on the calories i consume.

I have a doctors appointment the beginning of October (i am in school in another city right now) should i make a trip home earlier to see my doctor or wait until i go for my physical to bring this up with her?

I am young and healthy and there is no history of colon cancer in my family, but i tend to worry.

Could exercise and eating more vegetables change ones bowel habits? might my intestines just be adjusting to my new eating routine?

should i go see my doctor, might it be serious?

1)   sounds like you might be lactose intolerant. - Joe P

2)   yes, when you increase your fiber intake it takes your body a while to adjust. - The Wife

3)   Relax, if you change your eating habits then that is your answer, most likely. Alot of greens, such as lettuce and broccoli different vegetables, can make you have diarrhea, because its filtering your digestive system, which is a good thing. And as far as constipation bananas can do that to you, along with other fruits, it will eventually get on track when your body adjusts to it, its Just trying to clean out your system, no worries. - brittany

4)   Excessive exercise CAN stimulate your bowels, or- unless you don't hydrate yourself well enough, can also result in constipation.

Are you getting enough fibre in your diet? This is very important for healthy bowel function.

Look into fibre supplements or eat cereals and breads that have 'high fibre' claims.

You may also just be suffering IBS... it can come-on at any stage in life for various reasons.

If the fibre thing doesn't help, I wouldn't worry about it too much, unless it is VERY severe diahorrea and constipation/cramping.

In that case, see a health professional. - Tash

5)   NO NO NO!! you need to cut out all veggies! thats your problem, they are the ones giving you the runs. you need to eat bananas, they will back you up, but it will cure the runs, at least for me it does. do what you want but in my opinionconstipation is better than the runs...... - Harry Phalderman

6)   If you eat some magical shrubs this will cure your organ problems and you will stop having seizures every night - Harry O'Boyle
