does it sound like i have autism?

Question 1
does it sound like i have autism?...  I doubt theres anything wrong with me, I'm probably just overrreacting, but I was out with my boyfriend last weekend and he saw this boy he knew who had aspergers syndrome. At the time I didnt know what it was, so I researched it and found that a lot of the symptoms appear to apply to me. I don't even know if half of these are symptoms, but: I've always been really shy with strangers and people I don't know very well. People think I'm really weird. I have orders for things(my CDs are all arranged alphabetically, things in my bag have a special place), I stick to the same routine every morning and feel uncomfortable if something changes it. I rub my feet together every night before I get in bed and every morning before I put my socks on. I am(not meaning to sound big-headed)above average intelligence. I LOVE music and like art lots and I love writing poetry and stories. I get embarrassed really easily. I'm really clumsy(I often walk into walls or whack my head on things or drop things). I don't know what to say when I talk to people, especially people I don't know. I sometimes cut myself off from the world. I get interests that last for a little while, then change to something new e.g. I once got really obsessed over learning about the ancient Egyptians. I sometimes rock when I'm upset. I don't like bright lights. Does it sound like I've got autism?

1)   no. you have different traits of aspergers/autism but not enough to be considered autistic. you're just unique :) - cleverityƸ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ

4)   no, according to your description,i have a lot of the same things, but i am not autistic. - cmsm 2

5)   It sounds like you're very sensitive like me. I have a lot of those traits although I am quite sociable and I know I don't have autism. You may have a bit of OCD though like me - you have rituals, routines, obsessions and maybe a little anxiety too? - Ruth

6)   everyone one on the planet is on the autism spectrum, or ADHD... some are worse then others of course, but i have some ADHD traits that stick out like a sore thumb that i have had since i was born.. and i have a 2 year old baby with severe autism. I also rub my feet together in order to fall asleep. - Rose

7)   no, it just sounds like you are a really interesting unique person! If you had Asperger's Syndrome you would have probably been having more problems with social interaction. Also, a teacher throughout your years of schooling would have definatly noticed if you were somewhere on the Autism Spectrum. - Meghan

Question 2
I am trying to wean myself from alcohol for good, but...?...  it seems to be harder than I thought. I just need someone to listen to me. At night I get really bad sweats and my heart starts beating really fast. I know that drinking is a bad thing especially when you're a female. There's no reason why I do it, I just get bored and lonely...

Answers
1)   i think you have a problem. Go see a doctor or talk to ur parents - shalala

2)   Sounds to me like you need to get help. There are many centers for help in trying to quit alcohol, drug, and smoking. Ask your family doctor about help first, that way he can recommend a place that will benefit you the best. If you are having this kind of withdrawal you probably need to be checked out by your physician first before you try to quit this habit by yourself. It can be dangerous to try to quit an alcohol addiction cold turkey. I wish you the best and hope you get the help you need. - Pete C

3)   Instead of getting drunk, you should use the money you save from not buying alcohol to get involved in some sort of class. What are you interested in? Sports, arts and crafts, yoga? If you do things you enjoy, it will be easier to not think about alcohol and you may make some friends in the process and be less bored and lonely. Have you talked to your doctor about trying to stop drinking? Maybe they could give you tips on what you can do about withdrawal symptoms. I'm proud of you for trying to better your life. Addiction is a terrible thing. - NightshadeXx

4)   You are experiencing withdrawal symptoms(cold turkey). Please see your doctor and he or she will help you slowly step down. Remember that whatever you say to your doctor is confidential. - Brian M

5)   give AA a try before you become an alcoholic 'cause if you get to that point is impossible to go back to normal. I don't know how old you are but try getting some help to get yourself on the right track. I started drinking around 18 and it all went downhill without breaks ever since. Good luck - buddy1

6)   be careful weaning off on your own - sometimes even recovery houses for alcoholics request you go to to the hospital first so you can be watched while going through the withdrawals - anyway here is an idea - when you feel like drinking go online and go to an open AA forum - you can chat 24/7 with recovered addicts and active addicts / trust me it can help - i take advantage of the NA chatrooms when i feel like using - Susan

My friend has had a triple heart bypass is he ok to smoke cannabis without major risk?...  He had the operation a few years ago, we would like to know how safe it is for him to smoke cannabis.

Answers
1)   No, it's not safe. - Starless

2)   It's NEVER safe to smoke cannabis. It's illegal and your mental health will suffer - maybe not straight away but there is research to suggest it can lead to paranoia / drug induced psychosis.

If you value your life, would you want to smoke anything at all?

The hours of care medics out in to a major op like this ...................... - Daisycakes

3)   I would not smoke cannabis continually but once in a while would be ok - Susan U

4)   It is never safe to smoke cannabis! - Ellie

5)   Yeah go ahead what do think they just do by passes when ever there is nothing else to do. I personally wouldn't be smoking anything I would be doing everything I can to take care of my body and its organs. Pot has triple the tar of a cigarette. Question 4
Is it possible for an ear infection to pass from ear to throat?...  I got my ears pierced about 2 months ago and one of them became very badly infected. It got worse not better although I was cleaning it daily I now have a throat infection is it possible that this happened because of my ear infection. I have now taken the earing out and the ear infection is getting better
thank you for the answers everyone :)

Answers
1)   based on my own medical "history", ear "problem" can affect throat and throat "problem" can affect ears
anyway, as always, the only safe solution is to check with a doctor - HALLAYNT

2)   It's possible. The ear and the mouth/throat are connected via the Eustachian Tube. - GibsonEssGee

3)   yes - Just Me

4)   yes, but its usually infections *in* the ear that have a better chance of moving to the throat..
depending on how badly your ear lobes were infected, might be possible that some bacteria got down your ear canal? - jenna

5)   Yes it is possible since the ears and the throat are connected by an physical tube. Have you ever been going up in altitude and felt pressure inside your ears, what do you do? Swallow and it goes away, because you just equalized the pressure in the ear with the outside air. So there is a connection! Having said that, I doubt that the infection from the pierced ears in the cause of your current issue because we are talking about the external ear being infected not the inner ear. Unless of course the infection was so very sever as to get into the inner ear, but that is highly unlikely. But should you have ANY infection in or around your head in the future have it seen by a doctor. Think about it a little. What is inside your head? Things very essential to life, your brain for example, and your head is the gateway into the rest of your system, lungs, stomach, etc. Something bad going on there can quickly make you ill indeed. So next time see a doctor and save yourself perhaps a bigger problem. - Nathanael
