I think I have breast cancer, please help?

Question 1
I think I have breast cancer, please help?...  Last night, I noticed that my nipple was like.. different. It didn't look different, but it had hardened, and it really hurt to be touched. When I woke up, it didn't hurt much. I got home, & as I was just undressing, I checked to see if it was gone. It doesn't hurt to be touched much anymore, but it's still sensitive. It's gotten harder, and the nipple looks a little inverted, but nothing very noticable.

I've just searched the internet, and it said "nipple pain or the nipple turning inward."

I'm only 13, & not 14 for a while anyway.

My mother hates me & I hate her, so I can't really talk to her or anyone about this.

I've just booked an appointment with the local doctors, but it's in over an hour & I want to know what I should be expecting now =[

Does it sound like it's serious, or could it be something else?

Please help I'm terrified =/

Answers
1)   You made a good choice by making an appointment with your physician. He/she will give you an accurate assessment of your physical condition. Good luck. - Razor's Edge

2)   You are at the age where your body changes constantly. Nipple changes ref to cancer in generally aimed at older people, although good for you for making an appt with your doctors.

Hopefully they will put your mind at ease :)

Don't worry, I'm sure you will find that it's normal :) - MISS B.ITCH

3)   Breast cancer symptoms
Breast lumps in general
The first symptom of breast cancer for many women is a lump in their breast. But 9 out of 10 breast lumps (90%) are benign. That means they are not cancers. But if you spot a lump, see your doctor straight away.

What to look out for
Changes that could be due to a breast cancer are

A lump or thickening in an area of the breast
A change in the size or shape of a breast
Dimpling of the skin
A change in the shape of your nipple, particularly if it turns in, sinks into the breast or becomes irregular in shape
A blood-stained discharge from the nipple
A rash on a nipple or surrounding area
A swelling or lump in your armpit
These signs don't necessarily mean cancer. But if any of these things happen to you, you should get it checked out.

In a rare type of breast cancer called inflammatory breast cancer, the whole breast can look red and inflamed and can be very sore. Another rare type of breast cancer shows up as a rash on and around the nipple. It is called Paget's disease. It looks a bit like eczema and is sometimes mistaken for that at first. - manxbiker

4)   You are far too young for breast cancer. Sounds like it is caused by hormonal changes in your young body. The Doctor will put your mind at rest. - Kernow Lady

5)   Breast cancer is a lump. Since you nipple hardens, it's definitely not breast cancer.
If you touch your nipple, it becomes hard. This'll also happen when you have sex and you're aroused. It's totally natural and there's nothing to worry about. This might also happen if you see a really cute boy! (or if you're really cold ;D)

Breasts come in all shapes and sizes. It's the same with nipples. Inverted ones are absolutely fine. I think, if you've started puberty or your periods, it would hurt when you touched it (I know it does to me!). Sometimes it may feel like it's too painful to be normal, but honestly, they become sensitive during this time and you just have to ride it out with painkillers.

How come you hate your mother? Even so, you should try and talk to her. Mums are a great help when things to do with your body come up. They're a fantastic source of comfort in bad times so you should try to make up with her (but I don't know the circumstances so I'm not one to intrude).
Talk to your school nurse if you have one. They usually have leaflets on the subject of puberty and whatnot to help you, and are really understanding (honestly!).
Most of all: Don't worry! Worrying won't do anything to help, and until you have something to worry ABOUT, there's no point, is there?

Take care! - bubbleblossom

6)   Being in the health field and having survived breast cancer myself (10yrs) I understand how you feel. It is terrifying, but you did not let that fear make you inactive. Go to your MD and they will be able to help alleviate your fears. BC in one so young is very, very, rare. You did not mention whether there was any discharge of fluids from your nipple, plus at your age your still undergoing puberty which can cause the nipples to hurt at times especially around your menstrual cycle .Go see what the MD thinks and take it from there. Personally speaking, you did the best thing possible. It may be a clogged gland, a cyst (non CA) or even an ingrown hair as weird as that sounds. I wish you good news and good health. - Règle de royaume

7)   The chances of breast cancer at 13 are as close to zero as makes very little difference. If you had it your case would make headline news and be written up in medical journals the world over.

I was classed as a 'younger woman' when I was diagnosed with breast cancer; I was 50.

Breast cancer is almost unheard of in under 25s (let alone young teens); fewer than 0.1% of those diagnosed with it are under 30 and only 5% are under 40. Most (80%) are over 50.

And what you describe are not breast cancer symptoms; your breasts are still growing and developing and changes like normal hormonal development.

You could have waited till Monday and asked to see your school nurse; she would have been able to reassure you that you don't have breast cancer. - lo_mcg

1)   Sleeping pills are weak! Count sheep. - Kid.Tony

2)   Your boviously getting anoyed by it and that will only make it worse, just relax. Everytime your about to go to bed don't think "ohh great another long night", just clear you mind, try not to think to much that will keep you awake. The reason people count sheep is because it makes you forget about everything else going on in your life so you are not really thinking about much, apart from sheep. Ok, i know a meathod which helps me to get to bed so you could give this a go aswell. Lay in bed facing the ceiling, tense your toes really hard for about 20 secs till it really aches. Then do the same with your calfs, thighs, bum (bums a good one), hand, arms, then just relax, and lay there your energy will go down alot. - Josh P

3)   try tensing up your body each section at a time , starting with your face. Tense up your face, for 45 seconds, then release. Tense up your shoulders for 45 seconds, then release. do this for every section of your body starting with your face, and ending with your feet. once your done, tense up your whole body for a minute and then release. i have sleeping issues and this usually helps - kayla

4)   Hi. I had sleeping probs for about 6 months. I pretty much cured it by not having my laptop in my bedroom in the evening.

A wierd way to make you feel sleepy too is to bend your tounge upwards so that you can touch the roof of your mouth with the tip of it. Try it now and notice how you will start yawning! - CHEEKY
