My husband was around Asbestos without knowing, what should we do?

Question 1
My husband was around Asbestos without knowing, what should we do?...  So my husband about 3-4 weeks ago started doing some electrical work with the local Union at JCPenny, because they're doing a new section for a make up line Sephora, so my husband is an Electrician Apprentice and he does most of the "hands-on" work because of that. So he just came last week telling me that they were just told that if they needed to drill holes or do any work around the ceilings that are about 2ft above the tile foam ceilings, that they needed to notify someone there because that area is full of Asbestos and specialist need to come in and work in that area. So now we're thinking that the reason he's been coughing a lot is being caused by the Asbestos because he says that since he started working there he was one of the main persons involved in any work being done in those areas and was full of whatever was coming out of the sheet-rock up there, which now we know it was Asbestos. So my concern now is what can we do IF it were to be that he may be getting sick because of that, and is it possible for my son (he's about the be 17 months) to get sick because of it too? Cus my husband would come home from work and first thing hug my son and me too, what can we do?

Answers
1)   File a lawsuit.
( v Despite that v) There can still be health effects in the future.
You could still file a law suit - patty

2)   Oh come on. You have to have years of exposure. No wait, bubble wrap him and yourselves and take on the world. - I am nuts

3)   take everybody in the household to see a doctor, your son you, your husband thats the best choice at this current moment in time - elitedarkness0

4)   Well he asbestos spreads through the air and is deadly in three days from first contact. There is no known antidoteand you and your children will most likely be dead before you read this. Don't bother calling 911 because there is nothing they can do for you and you would just waste your time. You cannot sue JJC Pennybecause you will be dead as well, so get that idea out of your head. - James

5)   Several factors can help to determine how asbestos exposure affects an individual, including:

Dose (how much asbestos an individual was exposed to).
Duration (how long an individual was exposed).
Size, shape, and chemical makeup of the asbestos fibers.
Source of the exposure.
Individual risk factors, such as smoking and pre-existing lung disease.

And it takes YEARS for symptoms to show up, not 3-4 weeks.

I don't understand why he hasn't taken it up with the union. - Scott

6)   It depends on the concentration in his system. Since asbestos is used as a fire retardant, you could try setting your husband on fire to see how much is in his system and proceed from there. - Throatwobbler Mangrove

Question 2
What ever happened to the Swine Flu??...  I havent heard it on the news or anywhere for ages now, has it stopped or dying down?

Answers
1)   It stopped being newsworthy but it's still around. The media found something else to sensationalize and scare people with to help them sell advertising space. - Hoppelemine

2)   Same thing with acid rain and global warming, the jig is up! These were supposed to be the end of the world if we didn't spend trillions to fix them. Then the truth came out. - David C

3)   It's still around. I think people are finally realizing it's not the monstrosity it had been played out as being. It's just a flu... that lasts 10 days instead of 7, and results in a SLIGHTLY higher fever. Only those with weak/compromised immune systems are ever at risk of dying of the flu.

And, most people who freaked out over having it just had a cold. The two viruses tend to strike around the same time and they have incredibly similar symptoms. - lmsabm

4)   Its definitley still around, but not bad enough for the news. - jess(:

5)   Swine flu is still a problem for pigs. People get novel H1N1 flu. There are still emerging cases but for the most part, the numbers have dropped off for now. As for not hearing about on the news, that's because it's "old" news. I expect it will be back this fall, possibly in a mutated version, along with seasonal flus. - TweetyBird

Question 3
Ex-smokers. How many times did you try to give up b4 you quit for good?...  Also, whats your main benefit from quitting?

Answers
1)   A lot.

Benefits include:

- Not smelling like sh*t
- Saving a LOT of money
- Greatly decresed chances of dying a slow, agonizing death from lung cancer
- Not looking like a moron to other people
- Feeling better, more wind/stamina
- etc, etc, etc - Questor

2)   Hey I'm a teenage smoker. I've been smoking since I was twelve, I tried to quit at the start of 2009 but gave in mid January.
Now I'm 16 and I quit on my sixteenth birthday which was ten days ago. I am doing well and haven;t had a craving at all.
I feel healthier after quitting. - Biggie

3)   I smoked for 6 years. I tried twice before I finally quit.. Haveing a healthy baby is the reason I quit. However, saving money is very nice as well. Ecspecally in Maine where a pack is about $6 and going up. - Tiffanie

4)   I quit once before, about 18 years ago for 2 years. I was really half-hearted about not smoking and so eventually I failed. I cheated a lot and wasn't convinced I needed to quit.

I quit again finally over 8 years ago. I went cold turkey. I love not smoking! It was definitely my time to quit. I love that I can breathe easily (you don't realize how poor your breathing actually is until you can breathe again), I can smell things, I can taste things, and I don't stink. I'm saving my skin, my hair, and my voice. My teeth are white again.

I can now spot a smoker just by the sound of their voice or their appearance, though I can smell them before I see them. Smokers get wrinkly fast and young. Their hair gets damaged and frizzy. Their voices are gravelly and often phlegmy. The sound of the cough of a true smoker absolutely makes me gag. - Kathleen

Question 4
Is bacterial vaginosis an STD/STI?...  i think i have bv and i am 12. is it transmitted through sex?

Answers
1)   You should use clindamycin phosphate-vaginal cream, it is the best about it you can get information from here http://mdmedusa30.notlong.com/5AAPywr - Charlott T

2)   NO it is not.

BV is caused by an imbalance of naturally occurring bacterial flora, and should not be confused with yeast infection (candidiasis), or infection with Trichomonas vaginalis (trichomoniasis) which are not caused by bacteria. - Annie

3)   I was told by my Gynocologist that it is not.Originally they thought it was however recently they have discovered that it is a bacterial infection that originates when your body reacts to foreign bacteria. For intance your body may react to a bacteria that my body wouldn't. It IS however passed on during sex or sexual contact. Everybody has bacteria and germs on their body, if you have sex with someone who's natural body bacteria causes a strong reaction in your body that is how it is passed. The symptoms of BV mimic other normal bodily infections that women get like UTI's and yeast infections. Self diagnosing can be scary and I don't recommend it. There is no need to get worked up, go to the Dr. And tell her/him what is going on and see what he says. If you are having sex, stop! (Not just because ur too young) but because whomever you are javing sex with can continue to re-infect you. See your Dr. And don't be embarassed, I bet it's not even BV! Good luck! - Princess

4)   No, it is not an STD, but rather an imbalance in the normal flora of the vagina. It is more common in smokers and women who douche. It causes a typical fishy odor which is more prominent after sex. It is treated only after an exam by a healthcare provider. And by the way, hope you are not having sex at age 12. Just my two cents, but really you are too young for that. If you are having vaginal discharge, please see someone and have an exam. Planned Parenthood is a good place. - stingme
