Does excess coffee intake cause weight loss?

Question 1
Does excess coffee intake cause weight loss?...  it may sound stupid, but i've losing weight recently although i eat my usual meals. i spend most of my time in school, it's so stressful on me.....i drink about 3 large cups of coffee everyday, does that contribute to the loss of weight which i have?
it is really confusing me, i eat very well, i don't leave the table before i'm full..
i don't smoke or drink.

Answers
1)   well all that coffee is not helping your stress at school that is for sure, caffiene is a stimulant and it makes you all jittery and increases the stress response in the body. I'd say it was the stress that is making you lose the weight, not the coffee. - essentiallysolo

2)   The coffee may speed up your metabolism but chances are that stress levels and the coffee both play a part. This is not healthy. If losing weight too fast and not trying could be a sign of a medical condition. Consult your doctor. - Laurie

3)   Eating the correct food is vital for your health. You can try supplementing your diet with acai berry, it is not only a widely tested and acknowledged weight loss produce, it is a superfood too. There's a risk free trial offered at http://rds.yahoo.com/**http%3a//gilept.yourquickdiet.info I have been taking it for three weeks now and it is definitely working!! - Arturo

4)   No, coffee doesn't cause weight loss. I sure wish it were that easy! I wouldn't have to work so hard losing weight.

Now, caffeine has a reputation for making you lose water, but it's a pretty tiny amount if it does at all. And some folks think caffeine boosts your metabolism, but same thing goes.

Are you exercising more? That could lead to weight loss.

Is it a lot of weight you're losing? If so, even 10 lbs, maybe you should see your doctor to make sure you don't have a thyroid problem or something. - Sue

5)   Possibly.

Two things come to mind:
1. Dehydration. Drink an equal amount of water when you drink coffee. Despite coffee being upwards of 95% water, the caffeine in it is a diuretic, and will cause your body to excrete much more water than normal. Considering how much of your body mass is made up of water, being dehydrated can cause significant weight loss. (I took a 4 hour bike ride yesterday, sweating a lot, and lost 3 lbs, for example.)

2. Caffeine is a stimulant, and will up-regulate metabolic processes. You may burn slightly more calories if you're stressed and hyped up on caffeine all day. This could add up to weight loss over a few weeks. Also, caffeine has been shown to increase levels of fatty acids in your bloodstream. This ability to mobilize fatty acids and spare glycogen is often used by endurance athletes to promote a leaner build and conserve "quick" carbohydrate energy. A side effect is a slightly decreased appetite, which an also contribute to weight loss.

Hope that helps. - 25Pets

6)   maybe it's the stress that causes you to lose weight, because that also happened to me when i was in high school and i don't drink coffee. - Elizabeth

Question 3
What happens if i take flagyl more than i should take it?...  i was advised to take it for 7days, what happens if i take it for 10 days?

Answers
1)   thats not good ur probaly going to overdose - aryanna

2)   flagyl is an antibacterial drug, taking it as ordered, you shouldn't have enough for ten days. In other words don't take less of a dose to stretch out the medication or it won't work. If you have enough for ten days at the dose the doctor ordered, then it won't hurt you. - essentiallysolo

3)   Technically speaking, this medication does a very good job within the 7 day period. There should be no reason for you to take it for any longer than prescribed. A lot of antibiotics stay in your system for days after you stop taking them. If you are still having symptoms, call your doctor and see what he says. It will certainly not harm you to extend the period in which you take it. Other than some stomach upset and/ or diarrhea, you should feel fine. However , it it were me, I would not. Any medication effects your liver and kidneys. Why put the extra strain on your body. I hope that this has helped in some way. Feel better soon! - Ellen

Question 4
pain on the right side of my chest and difficulty breathing?...  i occasionally have this pain on the right side of my chest. It happens when i walk a certain distance and after i work out. sometimes it is caused by stress. Its a deep stabbing pain or pressure and sometimes lasts all day. it also causes me to have shortness of breath and difficulty in catching up w my breathing.
i'm a 21 yr old female no history of medical conditions, i'm 5'3" and weigh 120lbs

Answers
1)   Any time you dificulty breathing you should see your docotr asap - -THA TRUTH-

2)   Well you heart is located on your left side, otherwise i would've said you had a heart condition. Its possible you have asthma, but that's just a wild guess. I suggest going to the doctors. Saving your life is not a waste of time. Good luck! - )(urley<3

3)   You hart is NOT located on you left side. It is in the middle of you chest under the sternum. Hart problems can cause pain on the left side so people assume that is where the hart is.

This same post said "asthma". It could be. Exercise can cause asthma as well as stress but this would most likely cause discomfort in the middle of you chest not just one side.

I say see a doctor, get his or her opinion.

Good luck - Matt A

Please also let me know about the symptoms to detect whether it has caused by iron deficiency or viral infection.

Answers
1)   even after the antibiotic is taken, the effects can still be felt.
get a baby liq vitamin and take that for a while. I had a mold infection in my salivary gland for 8 months and went undetected by doctors.....so my health went right down...I have been taking liq vitamins with iron and it got me back up within a 2 months.

jean - milkweeds51

2)   antibiotics do NOT treat viral infections, antibiotics treat only bacterial infections. So if you had a viral infection, they should never have given you antibiotics because they do nothing against viruses. Viral infections also do not generally cause anemia, so I would say your symptoms are likely from an ongoing viral infection. - essentiallysolo
