how to differentiate papule and nodule? thanks!!!?

Question 1
how to differentiate papule and nodule? thanks!!!?...

Answers
1)   Unlike a papule, a nodule is characterized by inflammation, extends into deeper layers of the skin, and can cause tissue destruction such as scarring. Anodule may be very painful and resistant to therapies. A papule is a small elevated lesion above the surface of the skin. Nodules are more severe. Hope this helped out! - chiwoman

2)   a.s.m.a,
A papule is a solid raised lesion that has distinct borders and is less than 1 cm in diameter. Papules may have a variety of shapes in profile (domed, flat-topped, umbilicated) and may be associated with secondary features such as crusts or scales. A nodule is a small solid collection of tissue, a nodule is palpable (can be felt). It may range in size from greater than 1.0 cm (3/8 inch) to somewhat less than 2 cm (13/16 inch) in diameter. A nodule may be present in the epidermis, dermis or subcutis, which means at any level in the skin. (The word "nodule" is the diminutive of "node")

4)   Basically, by size. A papule is a small skin bump (<1cm); a nodule is a larger skin bump. Beyond that, other distinguishing characteristics might help tell you whether the bump involves the epidermis (such as scaling, erosion, etc) or is purely deeper within the skin (no changes in the epidermal appearance, etc). In additon, both papules and nodules can be either benign or malignant, so again, it's merely a size differentiation and nothing more. - zitdr_02

5)   PAPULE: a sharply bordered lesion measuring less than 1 cm (2.54cm per inch) rising up from the normal level of body skin in any place on the body. The origin of the papule may be from outside, e.g. virus (molluscum), or inside (excess fat cell, cancer, drug reaction). NODULE: is any papule that has grown to be greater than 1 cm. PATCH: a flat lesion greater than 1 cm in diameter. PLAQUE: a slightly raised lesion greater than 1cm in diameter. PUSTULE: a raised lesion less than 0.5cm in diameter containing yellow fluid which may be infective or sterile. BULLA: a vesicle which is greater than 0.5cm in diameter containing clear fluid. WHEAL: a transient pink or red swelling of the skin, often with central pallor. TELANGIECTASIA: dilatation of capillaries. - Old School

Question 3
What are the chances of me getting a parasite from my dog?...  Whenever I play with my pets I always make sure I wash my hands afterwards..except for earlier today I might have rubbed my eye on my way to the sink..and now i'm not sure I might've just gotten an eyelash or something in there but how should I know when to go to the hospital or the doctor?

Answers
1)   It may just be irritation because eyes are very sensitive to foreign particles. But the only time you would want to go to the hospital, is if the problem repeats and is happening consistently, so if your eye is still irritating and is causing pain, then it would be best to get it checked out - Chris

2)   Almost zero, and from your pet into your eye.. zero. I have had pets all my life, lots of pets, different kinds of pets, for 40 some yrs. I never took care to wash my hands after messing with them unless they were particularly dirty and have never gotten a parasite. I have never known anyone to get a parasite except small children who play in the dirt and they ingest parasite eggs. There is no parasite that comes off your pet's coat and can infect your eye. - SethSpeaks

3)   HI,

The chance of getting a parasite from your pet in this way is as close to zero as zero. In fact there are very few parasites (to include worms) that humans can get from their little Fido's.

If you didn't get an eyelash in your eye, you may have had a dust particle sitting on top of the cornea and when you rubbed the eye lid, the eye itself became irritated. Believe it or not tiny specks of dust can cause big pains for the eye!

Hope this helps - shrinkdoc

2)   its a parasite right? so after the bite or other possible transmissions it takes over

It can begin with fever, headaches, and joint pains. As the parasites enter through both the blood and lymph systems, lymph nodes often swell up to tremendous sizes. Winterbottom's sign, the tell-tale swollen lymph nodes along the back of the neck, may appear. If untreated, the disease slowly overcomes the defenses of the infected person, and symptoms spread to include anemia, endocrine, cardiac, and kidney diseases and disorders. The disease then enters a neurological phase when the parasite passes through the blood-brain barrier. The symptoms of the second phase give the disease its name; besides confusion and reduced coordination, the sleep cycle is disturbed with bouts of fatigue punctuated with manic periods progressing to daytime slumber and night-time insomnia. Without treatment, the disease is invariably fatal, with progressive mental deterioration leading to coma and death. Damage caused in the neurological phase can be irreversible. - Belle
