Having really bad panic attacks because of this stupid swine flu virus?...  I feel like I can't breathe. What can I do to stop them? It's worse when I'm alone.
I am already taking Valium for this! Doesn't seem to help.

4)   Why don't you just go and get the vaccine? Load up on vitamins and drink some OJ. If you can't get the vaccine just wash your hands and stay away from infected people. I think people are making a bigger deal of this than they should. I'm out and about all the time and I never get sick because I keep my immune system strong. 5)   Concentrate on breathing..slowly. Breathe into a paper bag if you have to. Tell yourself this too will pass. If it is happening all the time maybe see your doctor and ask for some medication that will help such as valium and xanax. Try to refocus. Know the warning signals that one is about to happen. Redirect however you have to. If the swine flu is what is causing the anxiety maybe it would help to learn more about it so you are well informed. There is a vaccine and it's only a little worse than normal flu.
Take some deep breaths, chill out, concentrate on something else.

In the UK they think that there will be a 6% loss of life, which is double normal flu, which is 3% of ALL cases.
Now think of how many people you know who have died of normal Flu. I'm guessing none, now double that...yep 0x2=0

Just stay healthy, eat well, if you get worried, go for a run, burn off some of that anxiety.

I suggest first call your doctor, second try to relax by doing something you like, reading, TV, spending time with boyfriend/girlfriend and third visit and surround yourself with friends. 8)   Don't let the media hype get to you. People have been dying with regular strains of flu for years but most have survived. The swine flu really doesn't have higher death rate than the common flu, the media just builds it up so they have a story. Rmemeber when Mad Cow Disease was supposed to take us all out? Bird flu? SARS? We've gotten through all of those without the human race being wiped out and we will overcome Swine Flu as soon as a new flu with an even more sinister sounding name pops up. 3)   Your question has many inaccuracies. First, I seriously doubt that you have had two friends die from H1N1, given the relatively small number of deaths. Also, the vaccine DOES work forever- once you take it you will likely never get this particular virus again. The reason why older people are not getting as sick is that many of them had a vaccination for a similar virus in the late 1970s. They are largely immune to H1N1 because of that.

H1N1 is just the flu, no more no less. It is not the end of the world. Horrible flu epidemics have been around for almost 100 years.

do I have swine flu?...  I got sick early in September and I had a cough and just one really bad day where my body ached but then I got better, pretty much back to normal. Yesterday the cough came back but it's not like from the chest it's like i have something in my throat that's bothering me and every time i cough or clear my throat it feels better. Then today my fingers ache all the way up my arms and my back hurts a bit and my knees ache a bit too. I have a feeling cause i didn't have a comfortable sleep last night. My mom says I'm like still recovering from whatever I had before but I don't know. I don't have asthma but I have a history of pneumonia but that was years ago! I live in Canada and the H1N1 vaccine is coming on Monday and I definitely wanna get it but I'm just scared that I'm getting the flu now....

I cant breathe?! Home alone, possibly asthmatic! help im scared?...  Ok well Ive have rhinitus and allergies and my doc thinks I might have asthma (theres asthma and breathing problems in my family). Ive been given a peak flow meter for 3 weeks to check if I have it or not.

So anyway right now, my breathings getting really bad. It hurts and is wheezy and I keep coughing, and it feels just difficult. I keep going dizzy and faint, and everything feels funny. Im really scared, cos my parents are at work :(

Dont tell me to go to hospital, my parents will punish me for "overreacting" because they think I exaggerate things. Im not overreacting this. I just need to know what I should do? My peak flow reading thingy is about 200 atm

2)   Nobody here can do a thing for you. Pick up the phone and dial 911. The crew, when they arrive, will evaluate you and if necessary, transport you to the hospital.

You need to involve your teacher(s), your clergyman and your physician in your dealings with the 'rents. Far, far, FAR better you get checked, especially when you're home alone - because this can progress to a fatal outcome very, very quickly. You need adult advocates to tell your 'rents in no uncertain terms NOT to pretend you're over-reacting. That's child abuse! - William
