Why do i have blood in my stool?

Why do i have blood in my stool?...  My name is Derek
Im 16 years old.
My problem is that i only have a bowel movement once a week. I dont know if that is normal or not.
But when i do have one. I have blood in my stool.
Not much but its still some.
But if i have another one a day or 2 later.
There is alot of it.
What do you think it could be?
And should i go see my doctor.
I havent told my parents yet because i think it would be pretty awkward. But if its something serious i will.
Please let me know.
My stomach usually hurt at some point in the day everyday.
This has been going on for awhile now.
And the blood is bright red.

1)   You need to tell your parents now! It can be fatal. That is the one sign you should never ignore! - ~MîKellî~

2)   Having only one bowel movement a week is abnormal ("normal" is anywhere from 3 a day to every 3 days). That bright red blood is probably from a hemorrhoid or an anal fissure caused by constipation. I bet it is hard to go (lots of straining) and that the stool is hard. You should see your doctor and and starting taking dulcolax (colace) which is a stool softener and Miralax once a day. You can back off once you become regular. Both are over the counter. You should tell your parents and your pediatrician. - bauerbd

3)   You need to go now....
It is not normal at all to have blood in your stool and it really really isn't normal at all to have a bowel movement once a week. You should be pooping at least 3 times a day!

You must give more detail though, is the blood IN the stool or does it simply coat the stool on the OUTSIDE? You must also answer if the stool is solid or loose. If you havn't pooped for that long...your stool might be very very solid and hard to poop out and cause cuts in your rectum, this is when you will see blood on the outside of your stool.

Blood IN the stool can be bright red, maroon in color, black and tarry, or occult (not visible to the naked eye). Causes of blood in stool range from harmless, annoying conditions of the gastrointestinal tract such as hemorrhoids to serious conditions such as cancer.

4)   Son it is time to look at what you are eating or doing to yourself. If the blood is IN your bowel ,ovement it probably from some food.If it is on the the outside of the stool then it could be hemorroids or a polup. Either way get checked out by a Dr. - Michael P

5)   sometimes it can mean your stool is too hard. (yes I know it sounds gross but you asked) I would try drinking something like prune juice or eating prunes in general. Prunes help your bowels (your poop schedule) regulate. Also, you can buy something at the store..wal-mart-CVS..Walgreens, etc etc called "stool softner" You can find in in the pharmacy section and you don't need a prescription or parents approval. Try these things for a few weeks, if it still continues then I would suggest telling your parents. Its nothing to be ashamed of. - Jamiep6

6)   Go to the Doctor or ER now. Might just be hemorrhoids, broken blood vessels in the rectum. But then again might be serious. - ET

7)   It might be your period, if you are a girl.

Tell your parents. I told mine, and they helped me alot, on how to change your .... You know. They will decide if you need to go to the doctor.

Is it possible to have a partially collapsed lung?...  I've been having some breathing problems lately. I feel like I am having to breathe too hard to get air when I run and I've been feeling this pressure on my chest. To be more exact, a little to the left of my upper celiac plexus. Recently my boyfriend (weighing 190 lbs) was laying on top of me. I weight 109 lbs and I was wondering if the amount of weight on my chest could have caused the chest pain.

5)   I had that and I went to the doc....um he told me it was "minor lock jaw" Im not sure what that meant but I couldnt eat for like 3 days ;( I eventually went away with the antibiotics he gave me...good luck - Michelle W

6)   You may have TMJ. It has to do with the "ligament" that joins your jaw to your head. I recommend seeing an orthodontist and also a chiropractor. The orthodontist can assess if your bite (the way your mouth opens and closes) is the cause. TMJ can be corrected through braces. The chiropractor, as most people do not know, can correct a lot of conditions and is not only for back pain. The chiropractor can use special techniques to re-adjust your jaw and muscles. My boyfriend went to see a chiropractor for his back pain before and happened to mention his ear/jaw pain.
