If you are healthy, will you get a flu shot?...  Dont wait until you are ill. A Flu vaccine will only help your immune system if you are well. Your immune system will use the vaccine - which has dead virus - to learn how to fight the real thing. SO will you go for a Flu vaccination when healthy?

5)   This flu attacks those that are especially healthy. Especially young healthy women child bearing years. Natives are targets too. And those with chronic respiratory problems. H1N1 vaccine side effect?...  i've heard a lot of rumors about the side effect of the H1N1 vaccine like not being able to walk properly etc. is it true?
what are the actual side effect for the H1N1 vaccine
because my parents are making me getting it because there has been a couple of people around our community that are positive for H1N1, but I'm still quite against of getting the vaccine considering the side effects and the fact that i think H1N1 has the same risk as other flu

Mild problems that may be experienced include soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given, fainting (mainly adolescents), headache, muscle aches, fever, and nausea. No vaccine is 100% safe for everyone. People with allergies to eggs, for example, can't take flu vaccines because eggs are involved in the manufacturing process.

And flu vaccines cause mild but common reactions. About one in three people get a sore arm from the shot, some with a little redness or even swelling. Some 10% to 15% of people feel tired or get a headache; some may even run a low fever.

And vaccines can trigger rare but serious reactions, even among people with no apparent allergies or sensitivities.

So if vaccines aren't 100% safe, why risk them?

Approved vaccines -- including the 2009 H1N1 swine flu vaccine -- are calculated to be much, much less risky than the diseases they prevent. For example, out of every million people who get a flu shot, one or two will get a serious neurological reaction called Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS).

But flu itself causes serious problems, including GBS, in far more than two in a million cases. And since a large proportion of the population will get swine flu, the vaccine risk is far smaller than the disease risk.

In clinical trials, 10,000 to 15,000 children and adults have received various manufacturers' brands of H1N1 swine flu vaccine. Nothing serious happened to any of them, including this reporter, who received a double dose of the Sanofi-Pasteur swine flu vaccine.

That's still not proof that no harm will come from the vaccine. Clinical trials cannot detect something bad that happens to one or two out of every 100,000 people vaccinated.

"There could be unknown side effects. Something could happen. But we think that is highly unlikely," says infectious disease and vaccine expert Mark Mulligan, MD, executive director of the Hope Clinic of the Emory Vaccine Center in Atlanta.

"The CDC, FDA, HHS [Health and Human Services Department], the Department of Defense, and several large HMOs with great medical records are all collaborating in enhanced surveillance for this national 2009 H1N1 vaccine campaign," Mulligan tells WebMD. "If there is a signal for a rare or late adverse event, we will identify it as early and as quickly as we can." - Nadia

5)   Just like any vaccine, there is always a risk of adverse reactions. You have to weigh the risks though. The chance you you getting H1N1 and becoming seriously ill or dieing are much higher than you getting something like Guillean Barret or Dystonia from the vaccination.

The most likely side effects from the vaccine will be a sore arm or not feeling your best for the day. In some cases, you could faint.

This vaccine did get developed quite quickly, but it has undergone much safety testing in Europe and the basic safety testing in Canada. (Not sure about other countries)

Gray stool? Any ideas? Please read and answer!?...  My husband has been taking Equate Extra Strength Antacid Tablets for the past few days and today he had a gray stool. Could the antacid tablets have caused this? He's going to make an appt on Monday but just thought I'd ask. Thanks!

2)   Pale Stool

Stool that is pale or grey may be caused by insufficient bile output due to conditions such as cholecystitis, gallstones, giardia parasitic infection, hepatitis, chronic pancreatitis, or cirrhosis. Bile salts from the liver give stool its brownish color. If there is decreased bile output, stool is much lighter in color.

Other causes of pale stool is the use of antacids that contain aluminum hydroxide. Stool may also temporarily become pale after a barium enema test.

Pale stool may also be shiny or greasy, float, and be foul smelling, due to undigested fat in the stool (see soft and smelly stool). - Aaron52

It could be the antacids. Also could be from whatever is causing the heartburn and upset stomach in the first place. Please encourage him to be very honest with his doc about this (some men dont like talking about stools) in case the doc wants to run a test on a stool sample, or otherwise check out what is going on in the belly. Is he taking a multi-vitamin? Sometimes those are so hard on the stomach... Good luck. - wasacon

6)   If he's taking too much of the antacids, this can cause gray stool. If he's really needing that much antacids, he should still see his doc for more effective medication. Be careful not to overdose on antacids - it can cause trouble. Always follow the directions on the bottle. - politically correct
