High Blood Pressure at young age!! Please help!?

Question 1
High Blood Pressure at young age!! Please help!?...  Hello I am 22 years old and I have had blood pressure problems since I was 18. Currently, I am on blood pressure medications and I have greatly reduced my weight from 185 lbs to 160 lbs. It has fluctuated the last couple of months but luckily has stayed in that low 160 area. I have been checking my blood pressure for the last 4 weeks consistently and it seems to stay around the 126/80 range in the morning and around 135/85 in the night. Is the night range good or is that bad? Sometimes, I am checking my monitor and it reads 135/88!! and then i check it five minutes later and it is 130/83-84. I am scared that my blood pressure problems are back and even though i lost the weight, it really hasn't helped. Am i doomed to develop heart disease at a young age?

1)   Hey there

Have you told your doctor about this yet? What did he say?

I'd say when you start worrying, immediately talk to your doctor to eliminate any doubt. He'll tell you what to do.

You being stressed about this can cause the pressure to fluctuate. Try to relax and keep your mind off the subject.

Regarding a heart disease, consult your doctor:)

Hope this helps - Arnar

2)   are you a high-stress person? do you eat a lot of sodium? both of these can have a huge impact on your blood pressure. maybe try doing some yoga and eat healthier. - Queen of Cups

3)   you seemed anxious. even young people are at risk when having a unhealthy lifestyle. boarderline for hypertension is 130/80. stage 1 HPN is 140/90mmHg. if you are using digital bp apparatus always check the batteries coz it may coz a false result. seeing a doctor may help you on other problems.

stay healthy - Jesmer

4)   Normal blood pressure is having a blood pressure reading that is above 120 over 80(120/80), but below 140 over 90 (140/90). If your blood pressure is within this range, you should be taking steps to bring it down, or to stop it rising any further

There are other medications out there u know, if this one doesnt work then your GP can prescribe something else. - jizzumonkey

5)   you are within the normal range, so dont worry, worring an other such stressing out can cause your BPto rise, relaxing and doing deep breathing can lower it. I hope the doctor who gave you bp med instructed you on the importance of exersizing and reducing your sodium and fat intake.you will need to take good care of your self as regards diet and exersize and taking BP meds as reguired to maintain the present range all your life, to avoid an early problem with heart atack and stroke. - ms.carolyn

6)   Control your blood pressure by diet and exercise. Also check your cholesterol profile. 140/90 mmHg or above is considered as hypertension.
Adopt DASH diet. If you are a smoker, then stop smoking.
Eat a low-cholesterol, low-fat diet, which includes cottage cheese, fat-free milk, fish, vegetables, poultry, and egg whites. Use monounsaturated oils such as olive, peanut, and canola oils or polyunsaturated oils such as corn, safflower, soy, sunflower, cottonseed, and soybean oils. Avoid foods with excess fat in them such as meat (especially liver and fatty meat), egg yolks, whole milk, cream, butter, shortening, pastries, cakes, cookies, gravy, peanut butter, chocolate, olives, potato chips, coconut, cheese (other than cottage cheese), coconut oil, palm oil, and fried foods. - gangadharan nair

Question 2
If I already have HSV1 and I give my boyfriend oral sex who has HSV2 what are my chances of contracting HSV2?...

Answers
1)   well then your a bit of a silly twat then!!!!!!! - Jill M

2)   pleasure verses consequences - Butch

3)   Honestly, in your case does it really matter?

-Chad, RN - cwhitneyRN

4)   NICE!!!! I think it would be a wise idea for you to go talk to your doctor or family planning agency about STD's and how they are contacted. The chances are very high that you now have both. Another point to think about is that HSV1 can be transferred to your genital area as well as orally. Want's you have one STD it dramatically increases your risk of getting another because it weakens your immune system. Please do not give him oral sex or have any kind of sex with him without condom use! - Merlot

5)   OH NO!! You will both end up with HSV *3*!!, Just kidding, The "V" in HSV stands for Virus, herpes is a virus for which there is no known cure. If he has herpes (2) on his unit or mouth it can and will spread!! NO JOKE! Have either of you seen a Dr.? There are some very good anti viral meds. that the Dr. can give to both of you. Often if your partner goes with you ,the Dr. will start you both on a treatment anf answer all of your ?s. If neither of you have health insurance you can go to Planed Parent hood or your local Human Resource office, You dont have to tell ANYONE the reason your there , Just say you need to see someone about birth control, And MAKE him go with you, If he is not "man" enough to go do this with you, DUMP the lil boy and find a real man! - Man Created God

Question 3
Will you take the swine flu vaccine? Have you taken it yet?...  I'm 6 months pregnant with twins and I have a 4 year old daughter. 50 % of me wants to get my daughter and I vaccinated and the other 50% of me doesn't. I am confused and don't know what to do. Everytime I decide yes I hear negative comments about it then when I decide not to get it I'm hearing about a child or pregnant woman dying from it swine flu I am torn. If you have taken the vaccine how are you feeling? What are your thought? Your input is appreciated!

Answers
1)   Hey there

What does your doctor say about this?
You should talk to him and ask him what's the best for you to do.

Since you're probably not a doctor yourself you should definitely consult one before deciding.
But of course the final decision is from yourself.

Hope this helps - Arnar

2)   There is a child i know and a pregnant woman i know who have both had swine flu neither of which have died. I can't really comment on vaccinating your daughter but i wouldnt get the vaccination while pregnant. - x.K.x Babey 2 angels in heaven

3)   I haven't and i won't. I haven't ever had the flu or any of my kids and until one of us gets it i won't be taking the shot. I'm scared of the swine flu but just as afraid of the vaccine so i'm just going to take my chances and pray we don't get any kinda flu. I enforce high cleanliness to my older two kids,8 and 5, so fingers are crossed. I will stop taking my youngest into stores at all by mid november. 14 months. - ~MîKellî~

4)   I already got it on Friday as a healthcare worker. If I were pregnant, I would definitely get it. Since this flu is effecting healthy people, especially pregnant women so much, I think it's important to protect yourself. If you have concerns you should check with your doctor. I can definitely understand being torn about this decision with all the different opinions out there. No two people seem to feel the same way. It's been 3 days since I got the vaccine and nothing bad has happened from it yet. - livin4christ

Question 4
Recovering from a cold?...  THIS QUESTION COMES WITH A TMI WARNING!!
Over the weekend i have had a terrible cold. I am pretty much back to normal apart from a slight cough. Since becoming ill i have eaten three chicken nuggets on saturday and nothing on sunday. On a normal day i drink maybe one bottle of fizzy drink but over the weekend i have drank five bottles of drinks including lucozade and coca cola and sprite and 3 cups of juice. My problem now is this morning i had some sort of diarrhea and it wasnt alot and isnt like normal diarrhea. I think it was just my bowel cleaning itself out. I had some soup at lunch time and things started to return to normal. Do you think the amount I drank and the tiny amount that i ate has caused this problem?

Answers
1)   to recover from a cold you must walk on your hands for 6days... the reason you do this is because all the snot goes to your head and sooner or later it comes out your noes making your cold go away..or you could just die from this because i heard your not suppost to stand upside down for over 30secs. or something cause it kills you. - Bob

2)   Yes I think it has. That is quite a lot of fizzy drink! It is good that you are getting back to normal but I would suggest trying to go a week without fizzy drink and try water or normal juice or squash instead.

I hope you get better! - Ribena

3)   drinking cola increases acidity of the stomach. try eating cracker coz it acts as a sponge. antacids may also help

stay healthy - Jesmer

4)   There was nothing solid in your stomach for you to do anything else but what you did. You can only excrete what you put in, so no solids going in, no solids coming out. - Richard M
